Quality jumps racing is becoming the currency of choice once more for weekend race fans and this time around Wetherby is front and centre.
The West Yorkshire venue offers a strong seven-race card on Saturday afternoon, set to be headlined by the Charlie Hall Chase at 2.58, the first of the major staying chase prizes in Britain.
The ITV Racing team are on hand to bring five live races from Wetherby on Saturday and we’ve got a selection in each of those terrestrial offerings.

1.15 Wetherby – Tedley
Seven runners are declared for this Class 3 handicap chase and lots of them are coming here without the aid of a recent run. That isn’t the case for the Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained Tedley, who scored a fortnight ago at Uttoxeter (2m, good to soft) on his chasing introduction. He jumped well, travelled well and ultimately won well, coming clear with a rival that had pushed a subsequent winner all the way himself at the midlands venue previously. Tedley is 5lb higher this time but has Jamie Brace more than offsetting that in the plate via his claim and there could be more to come.
1.50 Wetherby – Sweet Fantasy
Nicky Henderson’s mare Luccia is clear on ratings for this Listed event and she ran well in stronger company back in the spring but Sweet Fantasy is a worthy alternative. James Owen has his string in fine fettle and this daughter of Wootton Bassett went 2-2 over timber herself last season before a trio of Flat runs and a summer break. This demands improvement but she is entitled to come forward again and has champion jockey Harry Cobden for company.
2.22 Wetherby – Sandor Clegane
The likeable veteran Dashel Drasher spots the field 6lb in the Grade 2 stayers’ event and while he should give his usual bold effort, Irish raider Sandor Clegane is a very viable alternative for Paul Nolan. He was third in the Albert Bartlett at Cheltenham in 2023 and butted heads with some excellent rivals as a novice over fences last term. First-time cheekpieces are deployed here and he can go well.
2.58 Wetherby – Bravemansgame
Bravemansgame appeared set to win this race for the second year running 12 months ago but a mistake at the last proved costly and he settled for second. He raced four more times thereafter, all in Grade 1s, and ended the season without a win for the first time as a jumper. Some may be willing to start writing him off but not Paul Nicholls and the Ditcheat inmate typically goes well fresh so this could be as good a time as any to catch him.
3.32 Wetherby – Goblet Of Fire
This is a tougher assignment than the one Goblet Of Fire passed at Southwell 10 days ago but Nicky Henderson’s four-year-old left the impression he’s going to improve this season. He looked to be cruising to victory only for Forget The Way to come out of the pack and lay down a challenge. James Bowen’s partner relished the battle and really winged the last final hurdle at full tilt. He is a work on progress now and a 6lb higher mark is fair.
