Liverpool somehow emerged from last week’s Champions League last-16 first leg with a 1-0 lead over Paris Saint-Germain, despite the French giants totally dominating.
The Reds were thankful to goalkeeper Alisson, who turned in a heroic display to deny PSG several times, before substitute Harvey Elliott struck a late, undeserved winner.
Arne Slot’s side should be much better at Anfield, though, and they look set to resist a comeback from PSG and book themselves a quarter-final place.

Reds can rely on Anfield form
The first-leg performance will have worried Slot as PSG were in complete control at the Parc des Princes and the Ligue 1 leaders should have won comfortably.
If it wasn’t for Alisson’s brilliance in goal, Luis Enrique’s side would be heading to Anfield with a big lead to protect but, as it is, Elliott’s late effort means Liverpool are in charge of the tie.
PSG are bound to try and make amends for their wasteful finishing and if the approach play from Ousmane Dembele, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Bradley Barcola is similar on Tuesday, they will cause the Reds plenty of problems again.
However, Liverpool’s attacking output should be much better at home after Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota all failed to make any impact in Paris.
The Premier League leaders, who moved 16 points clear at the top after beating Southampton 3-1 on Saturday, have only lost once at Anfield in all competitions this season and the weekend victory was their seventh straight success at home.
They won all four of their League Phase assignments at Anfield, including memorable victories over Champions League holders Real Madrid and German champions Bayer Leverkusen, and they can maintain their impressive form by seeing off a talented PSG outfit too.
Salah to strike again
Salah had a rare off night in the first leg, but he was back on form on Saturday when he converted two second-half penalties to help secure the league win over Saints.
The Egyptian ace has now bagged 32 goals in all competitions and he’s expected to maintain his stunning form as Liverpool chase glory at home and abroad in the remaining months of the season.
After he struggled in the French capital, the forward will now be desperate to make an impact in the second leg.
Salah will want to improve on his record of just three goals in the Champions League this season and it would be no surprise to see him open the scoring at Anfield on Tuesday to extend Liverpool’s advantage in the tie.
Exciting second-leg anticipated
PSG will look back on the first leg and wonder how they failed to breach the Reds’ defence as they spurned chance after chance and were met by a sensational goalkeeping display from Alisson.
The second leg should feature a lot of attacking intent again from PSG, but at Anfield Liverpool are likely to be far more effective going forward as well, so this has the makings of an end-to-end thriller.
The first leg defeat is the only game among the French side’s last six that hasn’t featured four or more goals and Enrique’s side have scored 25 times in that spell.
Liverpool have netted 18 goals in their nine Champions League matches so far this season, so they average two per game and we therefore should expect an entertaining, goal-laden affair on Tuesday.
