Monday football tips

Bet of the Day – Walsall to be promoted v Wimbledon @ 20/23

Walsall will have been hugely disappointed to have blown their lead at the top of League Two before missing out on automatic promotion as they finished fourth, but the Saddlers recovered to down Chesterfield in the play-off semi-finals and can next see off Wimbledon in the final.

Chesterfield may have dominated possession in both legs of the last-four tie, but Mat Sadler’s men looked an extremely dangerous attacking unit and ended up as impressive 4-1 aggregate winners.

Wimbledon have to go down as somewhat fortunate victors over Notts County in their semi-final tie and they may run out of luck on Monday. The Saddlers took four points off the Dons in the two league games this season and can banish their automatic disappointment with a celebration at Wembley.

Special of the Day – Heidenheim to beat Elversberg and over 2.5 goals @ 29/10

Elversberg and Heidenheim are level at 2-2 ahead of the second leg of their Bundesliga play-off tie, in what looks an intriguing tie and it could go the way of the visitors on Monday night.

Heidenheim finished eighth in the German top flight last season in their debut campaign in the Bundesliga, and that impressive effort carried Frank Schmidt’s men into this season’s Conference League.

Elversberg had previously never played above the third tier of German football before 2023, but they will be dreaming of the top flight on Monday night as they now have home advantage at the UrsapharmArena with the tite level..

However, although things did not go to plan this season for Heidenheim, they were still the clear pick on home turf in the first leg, hitting 22 shots, striking the woodwork and enjoying a 2.89 v 1.80 superiority on expected goals.

A trip to the UrsapharmArena will pose a stiff challenge, but Frank Schmidt’s men appear to be underestimated at the prices, and at 7/4, look well worth considering, having won three of their last four away games while losing only one of their last six on the road in all competitions.

Each of Elversberg’s last four matches have seen at least three goals while the same could be said of the last three of Heidenheim, so, for a little extra juice, go for the visitors to come out on top in a high-scoring clash.

Longshot of the Day – Livingston to beat Ross County to nil @ 19/5

Livingston were unable to secure a first-leg advantage in the Scottish Premiership playoff with Ross County and the tie is finely poised at 1-1 when the pair head for Dingwall on Monday night.

Livi were clearly the better side at Almondvale, but Ronan Hale’s 96th-minute penalty kept Ross County level. David Martindale’s men bossed the ball and won the shot count 11-7 in the first leg and the Lions’ dominance can’t simply be attributed to home advantage.

County ended the regular season with an expected goal difference -0.54 and that number was easily the worst in the top flight.

Don Cowie’s men lost seven of their final nine matches of the campaign, and while they have Premiership status, it’s hard to argue that they are a stronger side than Livingston.

Livi are 17/10 to win in 90 minutes on Monday night but given seven of their last eight victories came with a clean sheet and the Staggies needed a last-gasp equaliser in the first leg, taking the visitors to win to nil in what is expected to be a cagey game looks a tempting option.
