There is a wide range of football action on Monday with Premier League and FA Cup first-round action in England plus top-flight games in Italy, Spain and Portugal.

We have a tip for the London derby between Fulham and Brentford among our three favourite bets of the day, while Lazio are looking to keep up their impressive start to the Serie A season against Cagliari.

Bet of the day

Lazio -1 on handicap v Cagliari @  11/8

Lazio have won seven of their last eight matches and should record a clear-cut home success against struggling Cagliari in one of three Serie A games on Monday.

The Roman side’s only blemish in that run was a 1-0 loss at Juventus when they had defender Alessio Romagnoli sent off after just 24 minutes, which is entirely forgivable.

They have been ruthless in their last three outings, dispatching FC Twente 2-0 in the Europa League and thrashing Genoa 3-0 and Como 5-1 in the league, and another victory by at least two goals is on the cards against Cagliari.

The visitors struggle for goals, scoring only eight in their first 10 league games, and they have lost their last two matches 2-0 to Udinese and Bologna, who are both below Lazio in the table.

Special of the day

Over 4.5 goals in Chesham United v Lincoln City @ 5/2

League One Lincoln should prove too strong for National League South side Chesham United in Monday’s final FA Cup first-round tie but the non-league club’s fans should be treated to an entertaining contest.

The odds of over 4.5 goals have been boosted from 23/10 to 5/2 for this match and that looks worth taking, with a couple of possible paths to that outcome.

Lincoln have been beaten only once in seven away games this season and the fifth-placed side in the third tier could simply prove too strong for their hosts, coming off back-to-back 2-1 home wins over Stockport and Northampton.

The Imps have not kept a clean sheet in their last seven games, though, and the Generals are known for a positive attitude, so will fancy their chances of getting on the scoresheet too.

Goals have been flying in during their recent games, with both teams scoring in 12 of their 13 league matches, the latest of which saw them stage a late rally to beat Enfield 3-2.

Long shot of the day

Brentford to win & both teams to score @ 19/4

There has been a stark contrast in Brentford’s performances at home and away so far in the Premier League season but the Bees could conjure up a first road success at Fulham.

Brentford have lost all four of their top-flight away games, but after facing Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham and Manchester United in those fixtures, this game arguably offers their best chance yet for a road success.

The Bees have been deadly so far in west London, taking 13 points from five games and scoring 15 goals including multiple lightning-fast starts, and with minimal travelling distance for this game they can’t blame a long journey for any underperformance this time.

The Cottagers have taken only one point from their last three games and lost their last home fixture 3-1 to Aston Villa.

Both teams have scored in Brentford’s last nine games and the same is true of seven of Fulham’s last eight contests, so an away win with both teams scoring looks overpriced.
