Newcastle and Manchester United have served up some memorable Premier League contests over the years with their latest clash coming up on Sunday.
The Magpies wouldn’t have started as favourites in many of their previous meetings with United, but it’s a measure of Newcastle’s progress and the decline of the Red Devils that Eddie Howe’s men are 8/13 to win at St James’ Park.

Red Devils set to deliver
Manchester United are miles off where they want to be and they go into Matchday 32 of the Premier League season down in 13th place, still seven points adrift of the top half.
At the same time, Newcastle are enjoying an excellent campaign and, having already won the EFL Cup to end a 70-year domestic trophy drought, sit in the top five of the top flight behind Chelsea only on goal difference, but with a game in hand on all their rivals.
However, offers of 8/13 about a Magpies success on Sunday look mighty short and United may be able to spoil Newcastle’s party.
There have been signs of improvement from Ruben Amorim’s men of late and the Red Devils played with credit when picking up a 2-2 draw at Lyon in the Europa League on Thursday night.
Prior to that Groupama Stadium stalemate, United were the better side in the Manchester derby, which finished 0-0 and it’s only one defeat in seven games for the Red Devils, while only on in 10 in 90 minutes.
Amorim has now had time to find a system to get United moving up the Premier League table, and while there is plenty more room for improvement, the Old Trafford side do now at least appear to be a competent outfit.
No side in the top-seven positions of the Premier League have won fewer than the eight home top-flight wins Newcastle have registered this season and the Magpies are no impenetrable force at St James’ Park.
At 19/5, United look a bet to leave the north east with three points.
Goals could flow at St James’ Park
Newcastle have seen 12 of their last 15 matches go over 2.5 goals and 11 of the Magpies last 12 games at St James’ Park have featured at least three strikes.
Manchester United have had the net bulge 14 times in their last five away games and backing over 2.5 goals looks a worthwhile bet on Sunday.
Zirkzee can find the target
Joshua Zirkzee has had to settle for a place on the bench in Manchester United’s last two fixtures, but the Dutchman found the net after coming on late against Lyon on Thursday night and should be full of confidence.
Clearly, the Red Devils would have hoped for more than Zirkzee has delivered so far but the 23-year-old has looked just about United’s most dangerous forward in recent weeks. He has scored twice in his last seven games, but only four of those games were starts, and he looks a big price to find the net at St James’ Park.
