Plummeting Magpies heading for more turbulence

The pressure was on Arsenal to deliver a positive result against Liverpool last weekend and the Gunners were able to take a 2-2 draw from their Emirates clash.

Mikel Arteta’s men twice led in that contest, and in truth, the north Londoners were a little unfortunate not to walk away with three points.

Of course, that was only a draw, but viewed in conjunction with a 1-0 win at Spurs, a 2-0 success at Villa Park and another unfortunate 2-2 draw when taking on Man City at the Etihad, it is clear that the Gunners are an elite-level side.

Away from Arsenal, Newcastle’s struggles appear to have slipped under the radar. The Magpies dropped into the bottom-half of the Premier League table after losing 2-1 at Chelsea last weekend and they are now winless in their last five top-flight matches.

Eddit Howe’s side did beat Chelsea 2-0 in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night, but that was a second-string Chelsea team, who were miles off the pace, and the Magpies have failed to beat Bournemouth, Brighton, Everton and Fulham this term.

Arsenal look a confident pick to leave St James’ Park with a big three points on Saturday.

Gunners have the firepower to punish Newcastle

Arsenal have scored 22 goals in their last nine matches and that includes two strikes against Liverpool and another brace against Man City.

Arteta’s men have no issue breaking down the defences of the Premier League’s elite sides and Newcastle could prove cannon fodder for the Gunners.

Howe is set to field a back-four of Fabien Schar, Lewis Hall, Tino Livramento and Dan Burn on Saturday and that line-up looks short of the required level.

Arsenal look a good bet to score at least two goals at St James’ Park.

Joelinton has the card potential of Clintons

Joelinton has made 23 tackles and committed 20 fouls in nine Premier League appearances this season and the all-action midfielder is likely to be kept busy against Arsenal.

The 28-year-old has collected four yellow cards this season, but it’s clear from the numbers that the Magpies midfield man has been fortunate not to receive more cautions.

Two of Joelinton’s bookings came against Tottenham and Man City, games where he has been required to get through plenty of defensive work, and more is expected against Arsenal on Saturday.
