There’s another super Sunday of football action in store with games from across Europe’s top leagues to take in as the month of September draws near an end.

The big one in the Premier League comes from Old Trafford as under-fire Erik ten Hag looks for a badly-needed morale boost for Manchester United when Tottenham Hotspur come calling.

Ipswich Town also welcome Aston Villa to Portman Road, while north of the border Hibernian are in Glasgow seeking to snap a seven-game losing streak in meetings with Rangers.

There are also top-flight games from France, Germany, Italy and Spain and our best Sunday bets are below.

Bet of the day

Spurs to beat Man United @ 17/10

Old Trafford wasn’t a happy place in midweek after the Europa League draw with FC Twente and a sense of frustration is never far away for Erik ten Hag’s detractors.

Spurs are the visitors now, the teams having gone into the weekend in 10th and 11th spots, both with two wins and two defeats in their opening five games.

The worry for the Red Devils is that three of their five league goals so far came against Southampton.

They were fortunate to beat Fulham here on the opening day and were then swept aside 3-0 by Liverpool on their second home appearance this season. They were also blanked at Crystal Palace last weekend.

Ange Postecoglou’s side probably merit more than their seven points. The loss at Newcastle was a travesty given their domination, but a failure to put the ball in the net cost them dearly.

They were then victims of a superb smash and grab from Arsenal in the north London derby, the Gunners happy to soak things up and take advantage from a set-piece.

United don’t appear capable of adopting that sort of tactic, as the workrate in their side is lower.

Spurs have scored at least twice in four of the last five meetings and, with summer signing Dominic Solanke now finding his stride, they can land a first Old Trafford win since the 6-1 rout four years ago next week.

Special of the day

Hoffenheim and Werder Bremen Over 3.5 Goals @ 11/10

Between them, Hoffenheim and Werder Bremen have mustered just a couple of wins in eight Bundesliga games so far and just a lone clean sheet.

The home side were in Denmark in midweek on Europa League duty and have conceded six goals in two home league games.

All four of Werder’s league goals have come on the road and they also hit three on their travels in the DFB Pokal last month.

The last five meetings between this pair have produced over 2.5 goals, while two of those have gone over 3.5 and both teams have scored in five of the last six.

Goals looks the way to go at the PreZero Arena.

Long shot of the day

Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid to draw & both teams to score @ 7/2

Bringing up the rear on Sunday evening is a Madrid derby that should provide plenty of entertainment for those seeking one last thrill after a stellar weekend of sport.

Diego Simeone’s Atletico go into this game two points adrift of visitors Real after summer signing Julian Alvarez fired in a last-minute winner in Thursday’s trip to Celta Vigo, a most welcome outcome for a visiting side that failed to ignite for much of the contest.

Atleti have only conceded three La Liga goals in seven games, but that should go out the window as both teams have scored in 90 minutes in the previous seven Madrid derbies.

Discounting extra-time, Atleti haven’t lost any of the last six, since a 2-1 reverse here in September 2022.

Real’s new signing Kylian Mbappe has scored in five successive games, but a thigh problem appears set to rule him out here.

Alaves scored two goals in a minute at the Bernabeu in midweek despite losing 3-2 and defensive frailties could ensure Carlo Ancelotti and co. leave the Metropolitano with just a point after an entertaining showdown which would leave both teams still unbeaten in La Liga.
