Bet of the day

Aston Villa to beat Manchester United – 23/20

It is difficult to think of two football clubs in more contrasting moods than Aston Villa and Manchester United and the pressure on Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag could be even more intense after his team’s visit to Birmingham on Sunday.

Villa are buzzing after their 1-0 Champions League victory over Bayern Munich on Wednesday and their pace in attack could be extremely problematic for a team who were unable to live with Tottenham when they lost 3-0 to Ange Postecoglou’s team last week.

Watch out for Morgan Rogers having a big game following some excellent early-season performances for Unai Emery’s side, and unbeaten Villa should be able to refocus enough to see off United, who are winless in four games and have already lost to Brighton and Liverpool as well as Spurs.

Special of the day

Chelsea, Bristol City & Aberdeen all to win – 3/1

Chelsea have won their last five games and with star Cole Palmer rested for Thursday’s Conference League win over Gent, they should be ready to fire against Nottingham Forest.

The Tricky Trees caused a shock when they won at Liverpool last month but that has been one of only two league and cup wins for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side this season.

Cardiff remain bottom of the Championship despite their 1-0 win over Millwall last week, but they face a tough trip to Bristol City, who are unbeaten in nine league matches at Ashton Gate since the Bluebirds won there 1-0 in March.

Complete a treble with red-hot Aberdeen, who have won all 12 of their matches this season and their last six in the Scottish Premiership.

They should see off Hearts, who could be fatigued after a Thursday Conference League trip to Belarus, and have taken just two points from seven league games this term.

Long shot of the day

Dejan Kulusevski first goalscorer in Brighton vs Tottenham – 13/1

Micky van de Ven won the player-of-the-match award in Tottenham’s 3-0 win at Manchester United, but Dejan Kulusevski was inspired in the heart of the Spurs midfield and caused the Red Devils all sorts of problems throughout.

The Swede scored a fine second goal to open his account for the season and having had 11 efforts on goal in his last four matches, there is little evidence that playing in a deeper position makes him less of a goal threat.

The former Juventus man is never shy to try his luck and, full of confidence after one of his best Premier League performances in a Tottenham shirt, he could open the scoring in Sunday’s trip to Brighton.
