Italy to beat Belgium @ 20/23
Euro 2024 was a source of disappointment for Italy as they lost two of their three game and needed a 98th-minute equaliser in the other, but the Azzurri were going through a period of transition when that tournament appeared on the horizon and Luciano Spalletti’s men now look a side firmly on the upgrade.
Italy got their Nations League campaign off to an excellent start when beating France 3-1 in Lyon and the Azzurri made no mistake when following up with a 2-1 success over Israel in Budapest.
The Skyblue and Whites scored a last-gasp goal and lost the shot count 6-12 in that contest, which was more comfortable for Italy than the scoreline suggests.
Belgium, who will be without star performers Romelu Lukaku, Kevin de Bruyne and Thibaut Courtois on Thursday look a side heading on an opposite trajectory and those absentees will not help under-pressure boss Domenico Tedesco.
The fallout from Belgium’s 2-0 Nations League defeat to France in September didn’t leave the impression of a united camp and the Red Devils look vulnerable at the Stadio Olimpico.
Special of the day
Under 2.5 goals in Greece v England @ Evs
England may just have a little too much quality for Greece at Wembley on Thursday evening, but the visitors look capable of making life difficult for the Three Lions.
Lee Carsley’s men have started their Nations League campaign with a pair of 2-0 victories over Republic of Ireland and Finland but there is no doubt a clash with Greece is a step up in class.
England created an expected goals tally of 1.63 against Finland last time out while Ivan Jovanovic’s side hardly gave up a goalscoring opportunity in two September contests against Ireland and Finland.
Greece are a defensively robust outfit, who look to have continued to progress on what former boss Gus Poyet started and backing under 2.5 goals looks a good shout at Wembley.
Long shot of the day
Over 4.5 goals in Austria v Kazakhstan @ 14/5
Austria will have hoped to have gained more than just a point from their opening two Nations League matches against Slovenia and Norway but better can be expected when Das Team take on Kazakhstan.
Ralf Rangnick’s men won the shot count in both of those September contests and this is a side who impressed at Euro 2024 with their high-tempo attacking play.
Kazakhstan conceded three goals and 16 shots in Slovenia last time out and Stanislav Cherchesov’s men could be hit hard in Linz.
