Adrian Meronk took the title in the first event of the 2025 LIV Golf season in Riyadh last week and now attention switches to Adelaide, which hosts the second tournament of the campaign.

While last week’s venue was a new one for the LIV Golf League, Grange Golf Club has staged the two previous editions of the Adelaide event and the atmosphere will contrast drastically to Saudi Arabia, with over 100,000 raucous Australian fans expected to attend over the three rounds.

Grange is a 7,039-yard par-72 layout which is a composite of two courses, the West and the East, the latter of which was redesigned by former LIV CEO Greg Norman.

The course typically lends itself to low scoring with 19 and 18-under-par winning totals over the last two years.

Smith looks set for big week on home turf

Cameron Smith went winless in the 2024 LIV Golf season, but the Queenslander will view this week as a huge chance to earn his first title since August 2023.

Three-time LIV winner Smith has teed it up in both previous versions of the Adelaide event, finishing third in 2023 and 14th last year. The Grange, which puts a premium on putting and touch around the greens, is an ideal fit for the former Open champion.

Smith hit the crossbar three times on the Saudi-backed circuit last year, finishing second at LIV Hong Kong, LIV Singapore and LIV United Kingdom, then he finished the year with form figures of 3-2-2-39-2 in events across the Australasian Tour, DP World Tour and Asian Tour.

The 31-year-old returned with a respectable 25th-place finish in Riyadh, but this week’s venue is much better suited to his game.

Burmester should relish Adelaide return

Long-driving Dean Burmester resumed LIV action with fourth place in Saudi Arabia and he looks a big threat at a venue where he has thrived in the past.

The South African, a streaky putter who was previously ranked as one of the best flat-stick operators on the DP World Tour, finished seventh at the inaugural Adelaide event in 2023 and third in last year’s tournament behind Brendan Steele.

Burmester, a LIV Golf champion in Miami last season, also claimed a title on the Sunshine Tour in the autumn and will approach this week full of confidence.

Improving Surratt is one to watch

This could be a big season for 20-year-old American Caleb Surratt, who has retained his place in the Legion XIII team for 2025 and appears to be steadily improving by competing alongside two top-tier players in Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton.

Surratt produced a respectable 22nd-place finish in Adelaide a year ago and his best LIV Golf effort came in Riyadh last week, when he finished 11th.

He had two top-two finishes on the Asian Tour in the second half of 2024 and looks ready to become a regular contender.
