Uganda national badminton team is set to take part in the 2025 All Africa Senior Championship due in Cameroon’s city of Douala (10th to 16th February).
A team of eight players (4 male and female apiece) has been training intensively at Ndejje University under head coach Ivan Kalimunda.
“We have the confidence of a good showing at the continental championship in Cameroon. The training has been good and players in positive response” Kalimunda remarked.
Vastly experienced Husina Kobugabe, Gladys Mbabazi, Tracy Naluwooza and Shamika Fadilah Mohamad Rafi are the female players on the team.
2023 gold medalist in South Africa, Fadilah is optimistic that she will again replicate the same as she takes on the opposition in Cameroon.
“At the last showing in South Africa, I managed to take gold. This will be the same target this time round in Cameroon. We are all ready to gallantly represent the country” Fadilah who beat Johanita Scholtz in the final states.
Team captain Amos Muyanja, Kenneth Mwambu, Agatius Owiny and Rubega Muzafaru are the male players.
“We are all positive that with the good training we had in Ndejje, all will be good in Cameroon. The team spirit is high and morale as we depart” Muyanja, the skipper adds.
The 2023 team will miss the services of Brian Kasirye and Expendito Emudu.
In Cameroon, there will be the team, pairings and individual games.
The delegation was officially off to Cameroon on Saturday, 8th February 2025 ahead of the trip.
