NEC FC were held to a one-all draw by URA FC in a closely contested game played at Nakivubo Stadium on Thursday evening.

The game of two halves saw URA FC dominate proceedings in the first half but NEC FC fought back to earn a point.

The visitors and table leaders must have felt hard done not to take all three points given the numerical advantage they had when URA FC midfielder was sent off in the 73rd minute.

On the other hand, the Tax Collectors equally had their chances especially in the first half but lacked the cutting edge.

At the start of the game, NEC FC had two chances falling to Paul Mucureezi at different intervals but goalkeeper Rogers Omedwa was alert on both occasions.

The first chance for the hosts fell to Ivan Ahimbisibwe who won possession from Ibrahim Kiyemba and fired from distance but goalkeeper Hannington Ssebwalunyo pulled off a wonderful save.

The breakthrough came in the 23rd minute when a poor headed clearance by Rashid Okocha fell into the path of Godfrey Ssekibengo fired a low drive into the bottom left corner.

Two minutes after the half hour mark, URA FC had the chance to double the lead but Moses Aliro and James Begisa failed to tap home with the goal at their mercy.

After the break, NEC FC returned a rejuvenated side and indeed made several inroads at goal.

Coach Hussien Mbalangu called for his first change, bringing on Allan Mugalu in place of Muzamiru Mutyaba.

The change seemed to have added more influence for NEC FC especially in the middle of the park, dominating proceedings.

The pressure eventually paid off dividends in the 66th minute with Mucureezi finishing off a well worked team goal to level matters.

In the 71st minute, URA FC were reduced to ten players with Hudu Mulikyi sent off for retaliation on Enock Ssebagala.

Mulikyi was already on a yellow card but when he was fouled by Ssebagala, he retaliated, stamping his boot onto the leg of the latter, prompting centre referee Mashood Ssali to send him off.

Either side had an opportunity to win the game in the closing stages but failed to find the target.

In the 89th minute, Geriga Atendele threw his body on the line to deny Joseph Ssemujju a scoring opportunity with the former taking a kick on his head.

On the other hand, Mucureezi had a glorious chance in the second minute of added time but he shot onto the legs of Enock Walusimbi.

The result means NEC FC remain top of the table on 23 points while URA FC move to seventh place on 15 points.
