Vipers SC maintained their grip at the top of the table with a hard-fought win over UPDF FC on Friday at Bombo Military Ground.

The Venoms who ended the game with a player less following the dismissal of Derrick Ndahiro claimed a 1-0 win.

Allan Okello scored the lone goal of the game to take his goal tally to eleven this season and stretch his lead in the race for the top scorer’s gong.

The decisive moment arrived at the quarter hour with Okello finding the back of the net.

The visitors had numerous chances thereafter but failed to stretch their lead.

Milton Karisa came close twice in the first half but fired wide on one occasion and was denied by the woodwork on the other.

He also had the ball in the back of the net in the 42nd minute but his strike was ruled out for offside.

On the other hand, Vipers goalkeeper Alfred Mudekereza had to pull off a fine save to deny Frank Mugisha from a free kick.

In the 77th minute, the Venoms were reduced to ten players with Ndahiro shown marching orders but they held on to claim all three points.

The result means Vipers SC move to 31 points, four ahead of second placed NEC FC while UPDF FC stay in 10th position on 17 points.
