News broke on Tuesday that the veteran QB could miss four games due to a hamstring injury.
But it has since been revealed that Prescott’s latest ailment could be much worse.
The highest-paid player in NFL history — Prescott averages a record $60 million a year — suffered a partial avulsion of his right hamstring, according to multiple reports.
In normal terms, that’s when part of the hamstring tendon is pulled away from the bone.
“I’d sit out the year if I was him, they have nothing to gain,” one fan tweeted.
“The season is over anyway,” a second fan posted. “Might as well let him take all the time he needs.”
“IR for the rest of the year is the only sensible answer,” third fan wrote.
“Prayers out to dude,” a fourth fan said.
The Cowboys could place Prescott on injured reserve.
Season-ending surgery is also a possibility, with the remainder of the 2024 season placed in the hands of backup QB Cooper Rush.
Owner Jerry Jones, who delayed in giving Prescott a massive $240 million contract extension, must weigh the immediate future of an underperforming 3-5 team with Dallas’ long-term plans.
“He (Prescott) doesn’t have the supporting cast,” former NFL coach Phoebe Schecter exclusively told talkSPORT on the Run Down.
“Mike McCarthy is in his last year of contract — everyone was surprised they brought him back again this year.”
The Cowboys have committed a combined $376 million to wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and Prescott.
Dallas also tops Read Madrid and Manchester United as the most valuable sports franchise in the world.
The Cowboys are valued at $10.1 billion, according to Forbes.
Further injury to Prescott could set Dallas back years.
While Prescott has been an MVP candidate in past seasons, he’s struggled in 2024 and Dallas is in serious danger of failing to make the playoffs.
Prescott ranks 20th in completion percentage (64.7), is tied-for-22nd in yards per attempt (6.9) and is 24th in passer rating (86).

Huge questions are looming around the Cowboys, but Prescott’s injury and football future are by far the biggest.
He’s Dallas’ most important player, but is 2-5 in the playoffs and likely won’t be able to improve that mark this season.
Next year, Prescott will be 32 in a league dominated by Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen, while rookie Jayden Daniels has helped remake the NFC East-leading Washington Commanders.
Two months after Jones made Prescott the highest-paid QB in NFL history by average annual value, No. 4 for the Cowboys is dealing with a hamstring that has reportedly come off the bone.
“This is a BIG deal,” DrJesseMorse tweeted.
“He literally partially tore the hamstring tendon off the bone (hip).
“This is usually a grade 2 of the semitendinosus tendon.
“These can take up to 6 weeks if surgery and up to 10 weeks to heal without surgery.”
Jones must also pay star rusher Micah Parsons, who has become frustrated at past playoff disappointments.
