Bryson DeChambeau is the only human being on the planet to win the 2024 US Open and appear on stage with Donald Trump.

But shyly showing up in a celebration with the United States President is just another trophy on the wall for a globally-known golfer who has 1.8 million YouTube subscribers, but doesn’t regularly appear on the PGA Tour.

DeChambeau, 31, has appeared in viral videos of his own making with Tom Brady, John Daly, Tony Romo and Paige Spiranac.

But it’s a hip YouTube vid entitled ‘Are the new Costco golf clubs even good?’ that best captures the highly relatable everyman DeChambeau has evolved into.

“Bryson has been a real gift for golf in general,” Chad Mumm, executive producer of Netflix’s Full Swing, exclusively told talkSPORT.

“The bad rap that golf gets is it doesn’t create a lot of amazing characters all the time. Every sort of generation, you get a few really interesting personalities. 

“He’s always done things his own way. And I think when he first came out, when he was a little younger, that had the potential to rub people the wrong way.

“Anytime there’s a singular individual who’s kind of deliberately bucking the trend and bucking the common knowledge, that’s like the definition of disruptor.”

Golf’s great disruptor officially plays for and captains his own Crushers team on the rival LIV Golf Tour, has $71 million in career earnings, and is one of the favorites to win the 2025 Masters.

But it’s the other side of the once-prickly DeChambeau — goofy, adventurous and down to earth — that has turned the Southern Methodist University product into the coolest golfer on the planet.

“His willingness to lean into social media and create content, it’s interesting because he’s doing it the way that he approaches golf,” Mumm said.

“He has brought on an amazing team. He’s been open to YouTube formats. He’s really tried to understand how to grow on YouTube in the same way that a MrBeast grows on YouTube.

“Some athletes just say, ‘Hey, I’m going to start a podcast or I’ll start tweeting.’ And then they’re a fan favorite, cause you’re just yourself on social media. In typical Bryson fashion, he’s taken that to the massive extreme and basically figured out how to engineer growth on YouTube, and has totally embraced it as part of his process.

“In doing so, he’s won over a legion of all new fans. I think if you’re a person, 20-something or even younger … Bryson’s your favorite golfer because he’s shown up on your platform. He’s shown up sort of (unfiltered) on YouTube and you feel like you know him.”

DeChambeau has nine PGA Tour wins, 26 top-five finishes, and is a two-time winner of the US Open.

His super-tense, final-hole victory over Rory McIlroy in 2024 finished with a new fan favorite celebrating as darkness took over Pinehurst.

Shooting a silly video with a barefoot, smoking and drinking Daly is part of DeChambeau’s appeal.

“I’m going to teach Bryson how to win a British Open,” Daly said.

“Just let the wind be your friend — because that’s what Jack Nicklaus told me.”

But DeChambeau also has the long and short game to rival Scottie Scheffler, Collin Morikawa, Ludvig Aberg, Jon Rahm and McIlroy as the top 2025 Masters picks.

He’s a proud YouTube influencer who hits ‘a little white ball around’ while racking up thousands of comments.

“Hands down the most entertaining Break 50 so far,” one fan posted. “I got a cramp in my side when Bob took a bite of the meat stick instead of breaking a piece off. Bryson’s face was priceless.”

DeChambeau is arguably the biggest name in LIV, has two individual titles on the circuit and the 2023 Team Championship on his CV – and has the talent to put the PGA Tour in its place at Augusta.

Another four-round duel with McIlroy will surely push DeChambeau past 2 million subscribers.

“We need more interesting narratives to play,” Mumm said.

“As a fan of Rory’s and as a fan of Bryson’s … I can’t imagine kind of a better head-to-head match — two players who kind of approach it from polar opposites and kind of see the world in totally different ways.

“This clash of the Titans, it’s just what makes sports so good. I’m excited to see Bryson back. At the Masters this year, he’s always great for content. Clearly he’s still sharp. He’s got all the tools he needs to win. 

“I’d love to see all the players playing back together on the PGA Tour. But the fact that we get them four times a year at the majors just heightens the stakes for everybody involved.”
