It is one of the biggest questions of the offseason.

How much are the San Francisco 49ers going to pay Brock Purdy?

General manager John Lynch has been navigating negotiations, and according to one NFL insider, the two sides aren’t close.

Albert Breer appeared on The Rich Eisen Show and shed light on the current negotiations between Purdy’s agents and the 49ers.

“I think the number, I think that the Niners would like to keep it in the 4s and Purdy’s camp in the 5s,” Breer said.

“I think that they that they weren’t able to kind of get some traction early, shows there is a little bit of a divide between the sides right now, and it’s going to take some time to get through this.”

NFL insider Jason La Canfora reported what the 49ers and Lynch’s initial offer was to Purdy, proving Breer’s report to be correct.

“49ers playing hardball with Purdy is very on brand,” La Canfora wrote on X.

“Starting your offers at $45M a year is something.”

Breer went on to share more information.

“There’s a disagreement in where they stand,” Breer noted.

“But I think the Niners would tell you both, publicly, privately, that Brock Purdy is their guy.

“I don’t think they want to go into a contract year with them, you know, but I don’t think anything is off the table right now.

“They’ve obviously got the franchise tag if they have to use it in 2026.”

The last pick of the 2022 draft has one year remaining on his contract and is due just $5.2 million for the 2025 season.

He is due for a massive pay raise.

At the scouting combine in Indianapolis Lynch spoke briefly about the upcoming negotiations with Purdy but didn’t want to get into too much detail.

“We have started negotiations, we’re talking,” Lynch said.

“I won’t go into negotiations, like always is our stance. [We] want Brock to be our quarterback as long as we’re here and beyond. And we’ll leave it at that.

“I think the final thing, there’s no guarantees we get something done.

“But my experience has been when both sides are motivated, there’s ample opportunity to do so. We’ve been able to do that.”

And according to Breer, they still aren’t close.

Opinions have differed throughout the league on where exactly Purdy’s value lands and how much he is worth.

He is nowhere near as talented as the upper echelon of starting quarterbacks in the league.

But it can be argued he is in that next tier of quarterbacks.

How much does that pay? And does it even matter?

The market will dictate Purdy’s value, and right now, that number is north of $50 million.

Whether or not Lynch and the 49ers see it that way remains to be seen.
