Bill Belichick isn’t a fan of the way New England Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo is talking about his players.
If anyone knows a thing or two about the current group of players in New England, it’s Belichick.

And he disagrees with Mayo’s assessment.
After suffering an embarrassing 32-16 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars across the pond in London at Wembley Stadium, Mayo called out his players.
“We’re a soft football team across the board,” Mayo said.
“I felt like we just went out there and played soft. We’re playing soft at the moment.
“When I say playing soft, it means stopping the run, being able to run the ball, and being able to cover kicks, which we weren’t able to do.
“Now in saying that, do I think we have the guys in there that can turn this ship around? 100 per cent. But that comes through hard work and getting better each and every day.”
The Patriots sit at 1-6, losers of six straight, so it would be fair to question the toughness of this team.
However, they aren’t soft. That’s at least according to the six-time Super Bowl winning coach.
Appearing on ESPN’s Pat McAfee Show, Belichick took a stand for his former players.
“It’s a lot of the same players from last year,” Belichick said.
“I’m kinda hurt for those guys because to call them soft, they are not soft. They were the best team in the league last year against the run. I feel bad for the defensive players on that one.”
Things are grim in Foxborough at the moment and now the greatest coach of all time is publicly disagreeing with the man who took his job.
It’s a tough look for the Patriots and an even tougher look for the first year head coach.
Although, as bad as it currently is for the once proud franchise, it seems as though quarterback Drake Maye is up to the challenge of being the face of franchise and helping restore the glory.
Maye has all the makings of a franchise quarterback and through two games, has definitely looked the part.
It may not be leading to wins, but it’s hardly the rookie’s fault.
There’s been nothing soft with Maye’s play, it’s just everyone else’s that seems to be the problem.

Or maybe it’s the man standing on the sideline who took Belichick’s job.
After all, as Belichick pointed out, he did have these exact players at the top of the league when it came to stopping the run, and now they sit at 21st.
It may not be a skill issue or a toughness issue.
It may just be a coaching issue.
