Thursday racing tips
BATH
3.10: Fairy Glen 4/1 (1pt)
EXETER
2.23: Florencethemachine 7/4 (1pt)
Fairy Glen
Forest Fairy beat Port Fairy by a head in May at Chester in listed company but now steps up to 1m6f for the first time having been well beaten in Group company since.
Fairy Glen however, gets 3lb from that listed winner which gives her a huge chance after showing great form in defeat in her last two races at Newmarket and Longchamp.
She placed third behind Divina Grace in the listed Chalice Stakes before going on to place a short head second to Lily Hart in the Darley Prix Joubert in Paris, also in listed company.
That latest race was over 1m6f too which is more encouraging coming into this.
Marie’s Rock is a very interesting contender, hence why she’s priced accordingly at around 5/1.
She stepped down to 1m6f at York in May for her first flat race and placed a respectable 5th of ten in the Group 3 Bronte Cup.
Lmay carries the same weight as the nine-year-old, 7lb worse off than than the preferred Fairy Glen though and is tough to side with after some disappointing efforts this season.
So she’d have to step it up and show the form that put her 3rd in a Group 2 last year behind Sumo Sam.
She’s certainly better over 1m6f but may have a bit too much to find if Fairy Glen delivers as expected.
Fairy Glen has a lot of boxes ticked for this including the most important top form, but it will all come down to how she handles the ground too.
She’s by Farhh who did win his last race in the Champion Stakes at Ascot on soft ground, which can sometimes be a big indicator to suitability for their pedigree.
Florencethemachine
Onto the jumps at Exeter, there’s a couple of promising chasers for trainers Paul Nicholls and Kim Bailey, Florencethemachine and Magical Escape.
They’ve both done well over hurdles and are now making their first chase starts.
Ajp Kingdom has already had four starts over fences but may need to improve against these unexposed favourites.
Florencethemachine won a point to point before heading to the Nicholls yard in 2023 and did show a quick adaptability to hurldes in comparison to her main betting rival.
Her first attempt over 2m7f was encouraging and it looks as though she’ll have more to offer off this mark.
