NEWMARKET
2.10: Olympus Point (1.5pts)
2.45: Executive Decision 5/1 each-way (1.5pts)
3.20: Monumental 11/10 (2pts)

Olympus Point

It’s set to be a rainy day at Newmarket with overnight pours also forecast.

While the ground might have been good leading up to the meeting, it’s certainly set to be a bit on the softer side.

That makes it a tad tougher to pick out some debutants in the first race of the meeting, but there are interesting punts for the second; the Nursery Handicap over a mile.

Olympus Point has probably the best form of the field and still isn’t the top-weighted, having placed 2nd or 3rd in each of his first three starts.

William Buick is on board the Godolphin owned and Charlie Appleby-trained colt by Earthlight, who looks to have a low mark to work with on his fourth start.

Celeborn is the top-weight but didn’t impress last time out, though he did keep on incredibly well to snag a distant third.

His debut win hasn’t worked out too well though and may find it tough giving away 2lb to a potentially better horse.

Executive Decision

The Premier Fillies’ Handicap is an odd one this year with seven fillies, the majority of which aren’t in great form.

It does open the door for them to bounce back though on much reduced marks in some cases.

Dance And Romance is given a huge amount of weight as the lowest rated filly and three-year-old, who could make the most of that.

Executive Decision was a non-runner in this race last year due to the firmer ground and she won’t have an issue with that this year.

She went into that as a 94-rated three-year-old having beaten Sophia’s Starlight at Goodwood and then won again at Chepstow next time out, in 2023.

Not quite with it since and has gone from a mark of 94 to 87 which could be a dangerous weight, giving her a chance to bounce back.

Sophia’s Starlight was also beaten by Funny Story in 2023, but she has a huge sway in the weights with that filly, but the latter has gone well in tough races this season while the former has struggled in all.

Executive Decision looks to be the pick as an each-way bet with lots of potential under Saffie Osborne.

Monumental

James Doyle was initially booked on two horses in the Group 3 Tattersalls Stakes on Thursday afternoon.

Both were trained by Hamad Al Jehani and owned by Wathnan having both won two 6f contests leading up to now.

It seems they also will play to the weather as they have as predicted gone in favour of Diego Ventura who won nicely at Ascot earlier this month on soft ground.

There’s still improvements to be made to eek out even better runs from this horse and should continue to show progression.

However, facing the likes of Monumental who already has Group 2 form over 7f is going to be tough.

The colt trained by Aidan O’Brien will have a great chance of winning yet another group race in Britain, with the help of the ever consistent Ryan Moore on board.

Symbol Of Honour was a close sixth at Royal Ascot behind Rashabar in a race that has thrown out a lot of subsequent winners.

He then went second at Doncaster after being gelded when upped to 7f for the first time in a listed race won by Benevento by just half a length.
