Sainte Lucie

Willie Mullins continues to send more to Britain and no surprises in this great Cheltenham meeting in the middle of April, where there’s plenty of decent prize money to make the most of.

He sends the Rich Ricci-owned Sainte Lucie for the first race of the day at Cheltenham in the 2m1f Juvenile Hadnicap.

The filly is rated a whole stone over he closest rival in the betting market.

The four-year-old won by a mile on her debut in a maiden on December and didn’t quite follow up with her potential next time out with something clearly amiss going into the Grade 1 hurdle at Leopardstown.

She improved but was still quite far back in the Triumph Hurdle next time out but that run still suggests there’s more to come from her as she continues to get the crucial experience.

Now coming into this looks to have by far the best chance and appeals a lot as 11/10.

Minniemum

Interesting to see the grey mare Sainte Doctor who is in terrific form go up to 3m1f the first time she’s gone over three.

As a result, with another rise in the weights I’d be sceptical on backing her again as she carries top-weight with Coco Mademoiselle.

Moviddy has a solid chance as she was only two lengths off of the grey at Fakenham, but when stepped up to this distance in March stormed home well.

She did get the benefit of carrying well under a stone to 2nd placed Space Voyage though.

I quite like Minniemum at 10/1 for an each-way play as she is very unexposed over fences still (two chase starts in the matter of eight days) and clearly has a chance under Sam Twiston-Davies after a solid second last time out.

Watching Stars

Nice 6/1 each-way chance as this horse was not suited to the 1m2f trip last time out and returns to a much more preferable 1m contest.

The Sea The Stars three-year-old was gelded two days after that race and that could well see him improve a lot since that October contest.

He even beat Valiant Knight by a short head at Thirsk before, where the going could well have been at play last time where it was soft at Newmarket.

There’s much more to come from this horse and the drop in the weights even by 1lb for that latest performance suggests the handicapper couldn’t risk going much further down for a promising horse from the top yard and owner.

Rosario

Solid form recently even if looking less than that in the form but that can be misleading when each time, especially at Kempton and Chelmsford was only beaten by 3/4 of a length and 1 1/2 length respectively.

Each time he’s been 11/1 or higher and is now on a much reduced mark for his return to the turf.

He was last seen on the turf when fifth at Ascot in a Group 3, the Commonwealth Cup Trial Stakes, placing a respectable fifth of ten behind Jasour.

Makes plenty of appeal stepping back to 5f and shouldn’t be discounted based on recent runs.
