It’s rare to see Patrick Mahomes this fired up.
But inside Kauffman Stadium on Wednesday night, the usually cool, calm, and collected Kansas City Chiefs quarterback celebrated wildly as his beloved Kansas City Royals tied up their match against the New York Yankees in the ALDS,

During the bottom of the fifth inning of the Game 3 matchup, outfielder Kyle Isbel doubled to bring home a run. The next batter, Michael Massey, then hit a game-tying triple to bring home Isbel and even the score at 2–2.
Mahomes, a huge baseball fan who played in college at Texas Tech and could have gone to MLB, was watching the action unfold in a suite alongside his wife Brittany.
Former Kansas City receiver, lifelong Yankees fan and good friend of Mahomes, Gehrig Dieter, was stood next to ‘Showtime’ throughout the game, and was on the receiving end of some intense Mahomes trash talk after the fifth-inning rally.
Viral footage showed the QB giving Dieter, who is named after Yankees legend Lou Gehrig, a friendly bump before screaming in his face.
Dieter, meanwhile, pretended to square up to Mahomes before the reigning Super Bowl MVP walked off in the other direction.
Football is Mahomes’ first love but baseball is close to his heart.
His father, Patrick Mahomes Sr, is a former professional pitcher who played in Major League Baseball from 1992 to 2003.
The younger Mahomes, who plays his games across the street at Arrowhead Stadium, has a one percent stake in the Royals which he acquired in 2020.

However, the Royals haven’t been in the postseason since winning the World Series in 2015, and Mahomes’ ecstasy quickly turned to agony against the Yankees.
The Yankees responded in the eighth inning as Giancarlo Stanton struck a go-ahead solo home run off Kris Bubic to give New York a 3-2 lead.
The Yankees held on and Dieter got the last laugh over Mahomes as they secured a 2-1 lead in the ALDS.
Mahomes is currently on a bye week with the 5-0 Chiefs, and will likely be at the pivotal Game 4 at Kauffman Stadium on Thursday night.
It’s win or go home for the Royals, and Showtime will be hoping they can force a Game 5 back in New York.
