WWE Bad Blood blew the roof of the State Farm Arena in Atlanta on Saturday night.
Making its first appearance on WWE programming in 20 years, the premium live event had it all, from an instant Hell in a Cell classic which saw CM Punk defeat Drew McIntyre, to Cody Rhodes teaming with Roman Reigns to conquer The Bloodline.
The Rock made a stunning return at Bad BloodWWE
The biggest pop of the night undoubtedly came at the end of the show, when while Reigns handed Rhodes his undisputed WWE Championship, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s music hit.
The trio enjoyed a tense staredown, as The Rock cryptically counted to three on one hand before turning around and walking backstage.
The Rock wasn’t the only WWE Hall of Famer in attendance, though.
Earlier in the evening, WWE’s Chief Content Officer, Triple H, made an historic announcement that the next Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia would see both the men’s and women’s world champions face off against one another to become the newly anointed ‘Crown Jewel Champion’.
Watching the announcement at ringside was Bill Goldberg, who hasn’t competed in a WWE ring since 2022, when he lost to Reigns at Elimination Chamber – another premium live event that’s set to come to England in 2025.
As Triple H was speaking, World Heavyweight Champion Gunther made his way to the ring, beaming with excitement at the prospect of becoming Crown Jewel Champion, before going on to slander Goldberg, calling the icon a ‘one trick pony’.
The insults didn’t stop there, and things finally boiled over moments later, when Gunther, speaking directly to Goldberg’s son sitting next to him, said he hoped his dad was a better father than he was a wrestler.
Blind with rage, Goldberg jumped the barricade and made a beeline for Gunther.
Security interviewed before the pair could come to blows, but it did lead to many speculating about the potential of Goldberg having one more wrestling match.
Well, that question was put to Triple H during the post-show press conference who, while coy on the prospect, certainly left the door open.
Triple H said ‘never say never’ over another match for GoldbergWWE
Things descended into chaos outside the ringWWE
“Atlanta loves Bill Goldberg, and that’s why he was here tonight,” Triple H responded when asked.
“He was with his wife and his son, and was always going to get a huge reaction during the show.
“You know, things get said. I can tell you when Bill came back he was not too happy with Gunther and we’ll see.
“The further you go, time catches up with all of us. The further you go those talks [of another match] get further and further away from reality.
“But I saw Bill earlier in the day and it was great. And I saw Bill later in the day and there was a different look on his face with a spark in his eye, so I would say never say never.”
With The Rock now set to return to WWE as we edge closer to Royal Rumble and the road to WrestleMania, it remains to be seen whether he’ll be joined by another titan of the industry.
What we can be fairly confident of, though, is that if Goldberg is to come back for one more match, then Gunther… you’re next!
