Tuesday racing tips

  • SOUTHWELL
    12.15: Theformismighty 3/1 (1pt)
    2.45: Mr Hope Street 7/4 (1pt)
  • Double – (0.5pt)

Theformismighty

The first at Southwell sees a couple of unexposed horses over fences as the ones who appeal the most in a decent sized field of ten to start off the day.

Yes Day has some eye-catching hurdle form though he struggled to win he did put in some decent performances behind the likes of Shanagh Bob, Destroytheevidence, Cuthbert Dibble and Kerryhill.

He goes off 2lb lighter than on his chase debut last month at Warwick and could benefit from that run.

Heroique De Maulde reappeared last month at Bangor after a huge 627 days off so it’s no surprise to see if he might have needed the run too.

Prior to that he won off 5lb higher at Doncaster and also went close to Heltenham two years ago back when he was well-weighted just starting off chasing.

There’s certainly potential there but the seven-year-old is a bit of a punt at 11/1 given the uncertainties on his second run since his long break.

Theformismighty finally got off the mark over hurdles in March, on his fourth attempt and then went well in fourth when upped to a Class 2 handicap in April.

His first start over fences at Chepstow in October was also somewhat encouraging placing fourth again, against some more experienced chasers.

He didn’t look out of his depth at all and will certainly improve for that for the in-form Skeltons where 3/1 could be a great price.

Mr Hope Street

Tipped Craven Bay to win at Kempton last Monday and he won convincingly under Kevin Brogan with a well-timed run to sweep past his rivals in the run-in.

There’s improvements to be made still from that run with his jumping and a 7lb rise might not be enough.

That said, he’s having to carry 12-5 as a result, though trainer Toby Lawes obviously still likes his chances taking him out again just eight days after that promising victory.

While he won well, the main reason for picking him that day was his preference for the distance over his rivals and his consistency.

He should be up there in this race but there’s clear hope in Mr Hope Street for the Skeltons who is the clear favourite on his first run over this distance.

He made his seasonal debut at Carlisle when 15/8 favourite running well but only just denied by Plaisir Des Flos.

That form has been franked with that winner going on to place well at Cheltenham – coming third amongst 16 rivals.
