Tyson Fury has been told to change his approach in his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk.

That is the advice of former four-weight champion Roy Jones Jr, who has had his say after the ‘Gypsy King’ lost to Usyk in May in their undisputed title clash.

The pair will now do battle for a second time and Fury will need to put in a career-best performance to overturn the defeat on December 21.

Jones Jr believes Fury gave Usyk too much space, but has backed him to make the necessary adjustments to still pose problems for his rival.

“Well it is a very tough predicament for both of them,” Jones Jr said on White and Jordan.

“But what I do understand is that Fury is one of the best guys at making adjustments.

“Eight years ago I told him he can beat any of the heavyweights out there, he can beat all of them.

“But he made a big mistake, he did what he did against Wilder against Usyk.

“He knew Wilder couldn’t fight if he backed him up so he backed him up and beat him.

“Why would you go there and back off from Usyk? Usyk is a small guy, you back off from him and it gives him confidence.

“Look what happened. Usyk now knows that he can put Fury down, and it could work for him or against him.

“If he goes out there as the normal methodical Usyk, he could beat him again.”

Fury has a huge size advantage over his rival standing at 6ft 9ins compared to Usyk’s 6ft 3ins, which many thought would be too great for the Ukrainian to overcome.

But ‘The Cat’ proved why he is currently considered an all-time great, and even threatened to stop his heavyweight foe who he knocked down in the ninth stanza.

It will be a seriously difficult task to dethrone the current unified champion, but one he will relish.

And Billy Joe Saunders believes Fury could beat Usyk easily, if he does switch to using his large frame.

“I don’t think there’s anyone out there than can outbox Usyk,” he told talkSPORT Fight Night.

“Tyson Fury, he can beat Usyk three times in one night with one simple game plan.

“It’s very, very simple how to beat him. You have to use your size. You have to use your physical advantages. Every attribute you have you need to use to full effect with this man.

“I believe Tyson will win the next fight. And I believe that he will win by knockout as well.”
