A marriage between Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) and the Uganda Seniors Golfing Society is going strong year-after-year with fruitful dividends.
For the 9th year in a row, UCAA has been supporting the seniors’ golf championship.
It is a smooth roll coaster as the sponsorship continues with the 2024 edition in vibrancy.
First things first, the authority has offered a Ug.Shs 20,000,000 sponsorship, an increment by Ug.Shs 5,000,000 from last year’s open.
Then, the professional golfers have been also included into the programe with the Ug.Shs 20,000,000 total kitty for those who will make the cut after 36 holes (two rounds).
Judging from the smiles from the officials on the executive committee of the Uganda Seniors Golfing society and representatives of the sponsors during the official launch on Tuesday, 3rd December 2024, one could depict, everything is going according to book.
UCAA’s delegation was led by the Deputy Director General Olive Birungi Lumonya and the publicist Vianney Luggya; alongside representatives from Crown Beverages and Uganda Breweries Limited.
“The Uganda Seniors Golfing Society is honoured to host the seniors’ tournament. This is a signature tournament on our calendar that regional events in the East, Western, Norther and central part of the country. We expect a big gathering to be part. We are also glad to have professionals in action for the first time. There are lots of prizes to be won and acknowledge our sponsors and partners” Charles Katarikawe, chairman of the Uganda Seniors Golfing Society.
Lumonya boldly delivered UCAA’s message before the press as they once again sponsor the senior’s tournament.
It has always been a pleasure for Uganda Civil Aviation Authority to join the community of senior golfers at the end of the year as we prepare for this annual Uganda Seniors Golf Tournament, which is usually held as part of the Aviation Week celebrations that run from 1st to 7th December of every year. The Aviation Week is special for the aviation industry and is celebrated globally with visible activities to commemorate the signing of the Chicago Convention in 1944 resulting into establishment of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), which oversees global aviation operations. The Aviation Week was first celebrated in 1994 to mark the 50th Anniversary of the signing of the Chicago Convention. This year, the global aviation body, ICAO is celebrating its 80th Anniversary with activities across the globe, and for Uganda, this is one of those activities earmarked to mark the celebrations.

This is the ninth time that the Uganda Seniors Golf Tournament has been sponsored to the tune of twenty million shillings (20,000,000/=) as part of the Authority’s Corporate Social Responsibility objective of supporting noble initiatives in the areas of sports, health and education.
“Many of the senior golfers are key stakeholders as they are frequent fliers and users of the services and facilities at Entebbe International Airport. We wish them an enjoyable and memorable end of year tournament.” Lumonya added.
Besides golf, UCAA also sponsored a Basketball tournament that was held at the China Communications Construction Company Basketball Court in Entebbe on Saturday, November 30, 2024.
The Authority also usually supports the Rwabushenyi Memorial Chess Championship in memory of the Authority’s former Director Airports, Cyril Rwabushenyi.
The 2024 edition is scheduled for December 5-8, 2024.
UCAA’s 2024 Aviation Week activities will be crowned with a Stakeholders’ Engagement Breakfast scheduled for December 17, 2024 in Kampala.
Last year’s champions were Edrae Kagombe (ladies) and Charles Kagombe (men).
Meanwhile, former national amateur champion Ronald Otile led day one of the professionals with 5-under 67 (gross) during round one.
The duo of Marvin Kibirige and Davis Kato are tied on 4-under-68 whilst Phillip Kasozi is chasing the leader by two strokes.
Grace Kasango (71), Hussein Bagalana (71), James Koto (73), Deco Mutebi (73), Adolf Muhumuza (73) and Gerald Kabuye (74) complete the top ten positions.
The professionals will swing off for day round two on Wednesday, 4th December 2024 to determine those who will make the treasured cut.
