UCU Doves secured a well-deserved 3-1 victory against Nemostars in the National Volleyball League at Lugogo Arena on Wednesday evening.
The Doves started the campaign on the low with a 3-1 loss to Elyon but recovered to a 3-1 victory to Ndejje Sharks.
On the other hand, Nemostars suffered the first loss after beating KCCA (3-1) and KAVC (3-2).
Nemostars came out of the blocks early as they clinched the first set 25-18 in a block where both sides were troubled with serving errors.
In the second set, UCU Doves took the driving seat as they opened a six-point (19-13) lead forcing Nemostars into a second timeout.
Mark Omara came to the party as UCU minimised their errors as they forced Nemostars into service error before winning the second set (25-18).
In the third set, George Aporu returned to the floor to help with the reception, giving Nemostars an impressive start to the block.
However, UCU fought from down to win the third set (25-22) after a dramatic overreaching call to Aporu.
It was a seesaw affair in the fourth set as the game levelled 22-22 at a point before UCU secured the sweet victory.
Aporu admitted that their attitude was not the best as they fell to the UCU Doves in the midweek clash.
“There was a bit of anxiety though our attitude was also lacking truth be told. We started on a great note but we allowed UCU (Doves) to gain momentum and we were punished,” he said.
” The more we struggled the more they (UCU) settled into the game. We shall go back and correct our mistakes as a team because we suffered several unforced errors.”
“The season is still young and we still have a lot of volleyball to play so I promise our fans that we shall bounce back,” he concluded.
