In an emotional farewell message, Shakirah Nanvubya expressed her heartfelt love and gratitude to the UCU Lady Canons, acknowledging the unforgettable journey she has had with the Mukono-based club.
After six years of wearing the iconic white and blue jersey, Nanvubya has parted ways with UCU Lady Canons but remains deeply connected to Uganda Christian University (UCU).
“UCU will forever be home. That will never change because I am who I am today thanks to UCU. I came as a little girl, and now I leave as a grown-up lady,” she emotionally told Kawowo Sports.
She further expressed appreciation for the experiences, exposure, and joy she gained during her time with the club.
“I am grateful for the six years I have played for the UCU Lady Canons. The experience, exposure, and happiness I have gathered are priceless, and I will forever be indebted,” she added.
Successful Journey
During her tenure, Nanvubya won six titles with UCU Lady Canons, an achievement she does not take for granted. She attributes her success to teamwork and a strong support system.
“I feel privileged to have shared so many happy moments with my teammates. I have won a lot both on and off the court, thanks to the teamwork and confidence everyone had in me,” she said.
Fresh Start and Big Dreams
Nanvubya’s basketball journey continues as she embarks on a new chapter with JT Lady Jaguars, where she is eager to embrace fresh challenges.
“I am happy to be at JT Lady Jaguars. I am still hungry to win more, so I have to work hard and repay the trust they have placed in me,” she noted.
With a strong determination to maintain her high standards, Nanvubya is focused on excelling in her new role.
“I don’t want to drop my level. I was the best point guard last season, and I want to keep that positive momentum. I am optimistic and ready to give my all to my new club,” she concluded.
