UFC 309 is coming up, and we are finally going to see Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic battle for the heavyweight title.

This clash was meant to take place at UFC 295 in 2023, but Bones suffered a horrendous injury in training, tearing a pectoral muscle and keeping him out of action for months.

Jones and Miocic could easily provide the fight of the year

But Jones is now back, and he’s out to prove he’s the GOAT of UFC by beating Miocic, who has several high-profile scalps to his name.

It’s a fight that has been over a year in the making, and it’s unlikely to disappoint.

Elsewhere on the card, Michael Chandler takes on Charles Oliveira.

Chandler was, of course, meant to face Conor McGregor earlier this year, but the Irishman picked up an injury, so he’ll face off against the Brazilian instead.

UFC 309: What has been said?

Jones’ coach Brandon Gibson has claimed his fighter will permanently retire after UFC 309, no matter the outcome of his fight.

Speaking about it, he said: “I do [believe it will be his last fight]. This is a dangerous game. It’s a dangerous game and it’s not one that treats an aging fighter kindly.

“I always encourage all my fighters to be out before [they get too old], to be able to pick their exit.

“Jon, more than any other fighter I believe, has earned and deserves to be able to pick and choose when he leaves.

“I think he has plenty more in the tank, I see his skill set every week against high-level opponents.

“I think right now, he’s better than he’s ever been. Like, oh my goodness.

“He’s really developed into an amazing heavyweight… I think he can continue to fight the very best for a long time to come. But, he’s also deserved to exit if he chooses to do so.”
