Daniel Cormier couldn’t resist informing Ilia Topuria of the El Clasico scoreline just seconds after his UFC 308 victory.

Topuria was looking to make a first defence of his UFC featherweight crown against renowned striker Max Holloway in the latest pay-per-view event.

And he did so in supreme style becoming the first man to knock out ‘Blessed’ with a stunning left hand in the third round which dropped him and saw the referee stop the contest.

Topuria has become a superstar worldwide but particularly in Spain, where he has become affiliated with footballing giants Real Madrid.

His beloved Los Blancos were in action at the same time, in one of the biggest fixtures of the football calendar against bitter rivals Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabeu.

And although overwhelmed with joy after the final bell given his sensational performance, UFC legend turned pundit Cormier decided to poke fun at the Spaniard.

He whispered into the champion’s ear shortly after the final bell before the post-fight interview, which drew a grin and a laugh from him.

Cormier went on to reveal that he had informed him of the current scoreline.

He tweeted: “[I told him] that Real Madrid was down 2-0 lmao.”

Madrid had managed to get to the half time break at 0-0, but a quickfire Robert Lewandowski brace had signalled a disastrous start to the second period.

The two neat finishes had been netted by the time Topuria had finished his bout, and things went on to get worse.

Carlo Ancelotti‘s men conceded a third and a fourth courtesy of teenage prodigy Lamine Yamal and former Leeds United winger Raphinha, which sentenced them to an embarrassing defeat on home turf.

Topuria will not be best impressed, with Madrid now six points off of the top of La Liga with Barcelona leading the way on 30 points.

His Real Madrid connections didn’t end there on the night, with their legendary former club captain Sergio Ramos cageside.

Ramos had been present at the weigh-in walking out Topuria as part of his entourage to the scales.

And he reacted wildly in celebrations cageside, despite likely knowing the events that were unfolding in the Spanish capital.

Fortunes were much better for the UFC king, who now has the world at his feet, and has moved up to No.4. in the pound-for-pound rankings.

A number of options are likely on the table including a switch in weight, but Dana White has suggested a rematch with Alexander Volkanovski is the most likely.

“Volkanovski’s one of those guys,” he said. “We’re not going to say no to Volkanovski.

“He’s been that guy for us any time we needed him. He’s been on this run like [Israel] Adesanya and like Alex [Pereira] is on right now.

“When things don’t go our way and you’ve got to call a guy, Volkanovski has always been that guy. He really was.

“For him to ask for it, I don’t think anybody in this room is going, ‘Oh, this is ridiculous’ or crazy. Who wouldn’t want to see it again?”
