Ailin Perez celebrated her successful UFC bantamweight title defence in a rogue way – by twerking in her opponent’s face.
Argentine fighter Perez claimed the victory at UFC Paris against Russian Darya Zheleznyakova on Saturday night, winning by submission in the first round.
Perez celebrated her first submission win in a unique way
After Zheleznyakova tapped out, Perez rubbed salt in the wound by twerking in the direction of her adversary, and continued to do so after Zheleznyakova got back to her feet.
OnlyFans star Perez also did her signature move for the fans in attendance at the Accor Arena and they appeared to appreciate the twerk more than Zheleznyakova.
She has twerked during weigh-ins for previous bouts, while men’s bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili was filmed slapping her bottom while she twerked ahead of this weekend’s event.
“I’m super happy to be participating in UFC Paris and like I always say I want to be the protagonist of every show that I’m at for the fans and for the UFC,” Perez said after the fight.
“So for me I was happy that they gave me an opponent with this level of experience because since I started in the UFC they’ve been giving me a lot of UFC veterans that have at least five fights in the UFC.
“So it was nice to be able to get a fighter that was I guess a little bit less challenging compared to the rest so I could show myself and really get a highlight win instead of winning by decision against harder, more challenging fighters.
“So I didn’t really think much during the tap because I learned that if I have a submission hold on her I was not going to let go of her neck until the referee pulled her off me.
“I want to dedicate the submission that I got to my coach Javier Oshar Sabo, who two months ago we saw this submission during film study and we realised that we had to work on that.
“So we did and yeah I was not going to let go of that until the referee pulled me off.
“So yeah we study or we try to use submissions from different angles and try to practice that to make sure that we can finish because in Goat Shed we’re all finishers.
This is the 11th win of Perez’s 13-fight careerGetty
“We’re the best team and we made sure that if we had to get a submission we had to work from her back, from her full guard, half guard in every single position side control to make sure that she can get it. So yeah, that’s why I was able to get it.
“My biggest dream is to be the one to bring UFC to Argentina. Mick Maynard is doing a great job of setting my career up in the UFC getting the right fights for me. I’m done asking for specific names.
“I’m already in the top 15 so I’m going to stop asking for anyone because everyone who I call out ends up running away anyways.
“So what I would want to do is finish the year in UFC Tampa in December or potentially even maybe if they have a card in Miami to do that because I consider myself a Floridian now that I’m living in the United States and that’s what I would like to do.”
The build-up to Perez’s bout was shrouded in controversy with the 29-year-old cutting a very unwell figure at the weigh-in on Friday.
Zheleznyakova came in under the 136lbs bantamweight limit, but Perez missed her mark by half a pound and looked seriously ill while standing on the UFC scale.
Scary footage shows the usually full-of-life Perez, known for her twerking celebration, looking extremely emotional and unsteady on her legs.
‘Fiona’ struggled to maintain her balance when asked to step on the scale.
Perez struggled to even make it on the scale and had to be helped off stage
The 29-year-old stood still enough for the UFC officials to get an accurate weight reading, but she could barely lift her arms to flex when her miss was confirmed.
She was once again visibly shaking, and things got even worse when she stepped off the scale to walk backstage.
Perez’s entire body was trembling, and an individual stepped in to help her walk.
The 11-2 fighter lifted her arm in the air to celebrate what she viewed as a victory as she got so close to the bantamweight limit after such a difficult weight cut.
It’s the first time Perez has missed weight during her pro career.
