2024 U-17 AFCON Cecafa Qualifiers:

  • Uganda U-17 5-0 Kenya U-17 (Group A)
  • Somalia 1-0 Sudan (Group B)

The Uganda U-17 national team for the boys (Cubs) marched to the semi-finals of the 2024 U-17 AFCON CECAFA Qualifiers in style after a comprehensive 5-0 victory over Kenya in group A at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo on Saturday.

James Bogere starred with a hat-trick with the two other goals coming from Isima Mulala Magla and Simon Wanyama.

Bogere broke the resilience of the Kenyans in the 18th minute for a 1-0 lead for the hosts following a well struck penalty.

Mulala added the second in the 40th minute and two minutes later, Bogere made it 3-0 before the mandatory half time recess.

Bogere completed his hat-trick six minutes into the second stanza and Wanyama capped the icing on the already baked cake with 9 minutes to climax the game.

The victory assured Uganda’s progress to the semi-finals, a date against the defending champions Somalia on Christmas eve.

Somalia finished second in group B with 3 points.

The other semi-final will witness Tanzania against group B leaders South Sudan.

South Sudan finished top of group B with two victories over Sudan and Somalia.

The boys were fantastic today—disciplined, focused, and clinical. Kenya is a physically tough side, but we maintained our composure and played our football. It’s always satisfying to see the team’s hard work pay off with such a performance. Somalia is a strong team, and we respect them. In the previous edition, they beat us in the semifinals in Ethiopia, so we know the level of competition they bring. We will use these two rest days to prepare and ensure we’re ready to give our best.
