Uganda completes Bahrain expedition with three medals | 2024 ISF Gymnasiade Games

Uganda won three medals at the 11th edition of the ISF Gymnasiade Games in Bahrain.

Two of the medals, silver was from athletics and one bronze in tennis (boys’ doubles).

The first silver came in the 800M, the other in the girls’ long medley relay that had Brenda Chekwemoi, Fillister Chekwemoi, Mary Awat and Peace Mbabazi.

Brendah Chepkwemoi clinched the first medal for Uganda when she ran the 800M race in a time of 2:11:69.

The bronze was in tennis from the duo of Adrian Troy Zziwa and Said Musa Kato.

Zziwa and Kato are both from Kibuli Secondary School and beat India 2-0 (4-1 and 4-1) to win the bronze medal.

Overall, Uganda was 34th out of the 71 nations (42 medal winning countries) and 5th out of the 19 African countries which took part.

In Africa, Morocco had 41 medals with Algeria following on 48 medals.

Besides athletics and tennis, Uganda also had representation in Table Tennis, Basketball (3×3) and swimming.

By and large, 5515 students from 80 school unions across 71 countries in this competition that had 26 different sports disciplines.

Like during the previous editions, there were special nights for cultural and nations.

Uganda’s contingent is expected to return home on Friday, November 1, 2024 aboard Fly Dubai (FZ 619) at 10:15 am.
