Uganda U17 Men’s National Football Team (The Cubs) have been pitted in the same group with U-17 Africa Cup of Nations 2025 hosts Morocco.

In the draws conducted on Thursday at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, Uganda has been placed in Group A.

Besides hosts Morocco, Uganda is also in the same group with Zambia and neighbours Tanzania.

It should be noted that Uganda emerged as Champions of the CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers in December last year beating Tanzania 2-1 in the final at Nakivubo Stadium.

The two teams were also in the same group at the regional Qualifiers that Uganda hosted and the latter won the group game 2-1.

Group B has Burkina Faso, South Africa and a yet to be identified team from North Africa.

Defending Champions Senegal are in Group C alongside The Gambia, Somalia and Tunisia.

The final group (D) has Mali, Angola, Cote D’Voire and another yet to be confirmed team from North Africa.

It should be noted that the 2025 edition that will run between 30th March to 19 April has been expanded from the usual 12 teams to 16.

A record 10 African nations will qualify for the 48-team 2025 FIFA Under-17 World Cup that will be staged in Qatar from 5-27 November, 2025.

The top two teams in each group qualify for the quarter-finals, and earn an automatic ticket to the 2025 FIFA World Cup.

The remaining two qualification places for African nations at the FIFA World Cup will be decided via play-off matches between the teams that finish third in their groups.

This is the second time that Uganda will be competing at the U17 AFCON final tournament having played at the 2019 edition in Tanzania.

The team had also qualified for the 2021 edition in Morocco but this was cancelled due to the outbreak of COVID-19.
