Uganda Rugby Cranes and Kenya Simbas have completed their captain’s runs ahead of the 2024 Elgon Cup decider at Kings Park on Saturday evening.

As most recent meetings in this historic competition have gone, the Elgon Cup is all to play for. Kenya lead by just two points after beating Uganda by 27-25 during the first round in Nairobi.

The two coaches – Uganda’s Marvin Odongo and Kenya’s Jerome Paarwater – revealed their expectations of the crucial encounter during their respective interviews with Kawowo Sports at Kings Park.

Although he did not make a bold prediction, Paarwater said he expects the match to be decided late.

“It might come to the last minute of the game because that’s how tight it was in Nairobi. I expect nothing less. I think overall we will be ready tomorrow for the game and Uganda, I think they will also be ready. I think it’s going to be nice for the crowd to come out and just experience a nice game of rugby,” Paarwater said.

Odongo, on the other hand, did not hold back and affirmed that his charges will come out on top.

“I can assure you that this weekend we shall be winning this game. Final score is: we are going to win by seven and we shall be the champions,” Odongo said.

2024 marks the twentieth anniversary of the Elgon Cup. Kenya have won the title thirteen times while Uganda have only won it thrice.
