Uganda national golf team flagged off for 2024 All Africa Golf Championship in Zimbabwe

Event: 2024 All Africa Golf Championship

Dates: 28th October to 2nd November

Venue: Bulawayo Golf Club, Zimbabwe

The Uganda national golf team was officially flagged off for the 2024 All Africa Golf Championship on Friday, 25th October.

The flag off took place at the terraces of Uganda Golf Club in Kampala city.

National Council of Sports (NCS) chairman Ambrose Tashobya was chief guest during an event also graced by the Uganda Golf Union officials.

“I thank the Uganda Golf Union for the continued growth of the game in Uganda.” Tashobya remarked.

“We are rest assured with the matters of Governance in the Uganda Golf Union. Thank you for the professional and good service at heart because your leadership is focused. To the athletes; this is a huge opportunity to go and gallantly represent the country. Stay focused and give the game the best. Your best is good enough. The NCS is committed to supporting Golf in this country.” Tashobya added.

Anthony Agaba, the vice president of Uganda Golf Union expressed readiness for tournament.

“This will be the fourth participation for team Uganda at this championship. The team is ready to represent Uganda to the best of their ability having been in camp for the past two weeks” Agaba noted.

The team head coach Flavia Namakula is positive about the team’s performance in Zimbabwe.

“The team is ready. The boys are very positive. We have had two weeks of intense training and the players are in the best shape. The course conditions in Bulawayo are dry since Zimbabwe has not been experiencing rains of late” Namakula expressed.

Team composition

Joseph Cwinya-ai travels as the team captain. He is joined by the reigning national champion Joseph Regan Akena, Ibrahim Ssemakula and Elton Thembo.

Thembo replaces Joseph Kasozi who had traveled to Rwanda last month for the Africa region IV championship.

Paul Habyarimana will travel as the team manager of Uganda national team.

The tournament will take place at the 1895 founded Bulawayo Golf Course, Zimbabwe between 28th October and 2nd November 2024 with the four ball, better ball format as well as the individual championships.

There are 17 countries that have confirmed participation so far.

Morocco is the reigning champion.
