Uganda Police women handball team emerged as champions at the 2024 East and Central Africa championship played in Rwanda’s capital, Kigali.
The dominant team won all their three matches over Kenya and Rwanda opposition, scoring 135 goals and conceded 80 goals.
In the opening duel, Uganda Police edged the reigning champions Nairobi Water 28-25.
During the second contest, Uganda Police won over Rwanda’s ES Nyamagabe 46-28 before humiliating University of Kigali 61-27.
Uganda Police’s Lillian Achola was the most valuable player of the tournament.
Since 1996, no Ugandan side had tasted victory after Uganda Railways Handball Club had triumphed.
Uganda Police has now broken the dominance of Nairobi Water who had won this championship for a record unprecedented 9 times.
The team was led by head coach Aziz Yakub who worked with a committed back room of officials; Emmans Pirwoth (assistant coach), Ali Ahmed (team manager), Noelin Nabayaza (team physio) and others.

This year alone (2024), Uganda Police won three championships competed in commencing with the Champions League, the Uganda national League and now the East and Central African Handball club championship.
