Unheralded Chiefs man on brink of seventh Super Bowl victory after playing huge part in Brady and Belichick’s Patriots dynasty

There is a one-man dynasty among the Kansas City Chiefs’ roster.

When the defending champions take on the Philadelphia Eagles in next month’s Super Bowl, one person will be looking to continue their stranglehold on the NFL.

Brendan Daly is one of the most successful individuals in NFL history.

The 49-year-old is the Chiefs’ current linebackers coach and is officially heading to his ninth Super Bowl in eleven years.

Daly joined the three-time Super Bowl champions in 2019, first coaching their defensive line before becoming the linebackers coach in 2022.

Daly has helped the Chiefs create their own dynasty over the last five years, and on February 9 will be part of the Kansas City squad aiming to win their fourth Lombardi Trophy — and his seventh — against the Eagles.

Before his time with the Chiefs, the six-time Super Bowl champion spent five years with Bill Belichick and Tom Brady’s New England Patriots between 2014-2018.

Joining the Patriots in 2014 was the golden ticket for Daly, as the franchise went on to win three Super Bowls in the five years he was in Foxborough.

Just as their dynasty came to a close, Daly joined the Chiefs, although it wasn’t exactly an easy decision for him.

“I had no desire or anticipation to leave New England. I really didn’t,” Daly said back in 2020. “And to be honest, it was a very difficult decision for me. That’s a hard place to leave.

“It really was, particularly after the success we had there and the relationships and the people. But there were a number of things that lined up all at the same time that led me here.”

However, Daly immediately tasted success with his new club.

In his first season with the Chiefs, the team made the big game and won it for the first time in the Andy Reid era.

That was the start of the dynasty, with the franchise now making the Super Bowl in five of the past six years, with Daly there for every single one.

It’s left fans pondering if there’s a science to him seemingly always being with the right team at the right time.

Others remarked on how underrated he’s been for two different dynasties.

“He has been a huge part of this team. A true winner for two different dynasties,” one fan wrote on X.

“Excellent coach, absolutely. But most excellent coaches don’t get to transition straight from one dynasty to another. Timing-wise, extremely lucky,” another fan posted.

“Luckiest coach in the NFL, fair play to the guy lol,” one fan also added.

Daly has made the big game a total of nine times, a remarkable feat given he has failed to make the championship game just twice since 2013.

The first was in 2015, when the Patriots narrowly lost to the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship game.

The second was in 2022, when the Chiefs lost to the Cincinnati Bengals, 24-27, in overtime.

This kind of sustained success for Daly inevitably makes him a target for other teams.

Back in January of last year, the New York Giants interviewed him for their defensive coordinator job.

Super Bowl LIX between the Eagles and Chiefs kicks off on February 9, with a unprecedented three-peat on the line for Daly and his team.
