The year 2024 was special for the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC).

Uganda was among the 204 countries that took part and presented a strong delegation of athletics, swimming, rowing and cycling.

“Along the way, we also had some hurdles. Overall, we look back at 2024 with a deep sense of satisfaction and look at 2025 with ever more promise” he added.

In particular, Dr Rukare pointed to the 100 percent attendance to all executive committee meetings and the quarterly council meetings with the annual general assembly.

One key highlight was the historic visit of the president of International Olympic Committee Dr Thomas Bach as president of the association of the national Olympic committee of Africa Mustafa Berraf.

Partnerships:

Uganda Olympic Committee further stamped partnerships with important pillars as Uganda Forestry Authority providing 1500 acres of land in five locations with the objective of setting up the largest Olympic forest in the Olympic global family.

There were partnerships with various corporates; Nile Breweries, Kansai Plascon, Sanlam Insurance, Graphic Systems, Uganda Tourism Board, Bahrain Olympic Committee, Saudi Olympic Committee and Cuban Olympic Committee; and more are targeted in 2025.

A couple of Uganda administrators assumed pivotal roles at regional and international levels.

Harriet Aya (Gymnastics), Simon Peter Komakech (Modern Pentathlon) and Sadick Nassiwu (Volleyball) all attained different responsibilities.

Heading to 2025:

There is a lot in stock for Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) come the year 2025 with one key event being the elective assembly in March.

They are still in the quest to secure land to construct the Olympic office and second OlympiAfrica center as well as preparations for the 6th Islamic Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (6th to 15th August 2025).

I would love to thank my colleagues on the Uganda Olympic Committee / CommonWealth Games Uganda Executive committee for the unwavering commitment and guidance. Our staff at the secretariat for their amazing hard-work and resilience, members of the UOC Commissions, our member associations (federations), the Government of Uganda, Ministry of Education and Sports, National Council of Sports (NCS), partners and media for their support. We look forward to our continued collaboration. We firmly believe that 2025 will be a year full of sporting promise and activity. We remain committed to serving our members and the athletes to ensure that sports made in Uganda continues to soar even higher.
