UPDF FC recovered from their humiliating defeat to SC Villa to secure maximum points against Mbarara City on Wednesday in Bombo.

The Army side were thumped by SC Villa 5-1 last week and needed a strong response from that heavy defeat.

It is indeed what they did on Wednesday at the Bombo Miltary Ground, securing a hard-fought 2-1 win over Ankole Lions.

Frank Gladson Mugisa fired the home side into the lead in the 17th minute scoring direct from a well taken free kick.

Captain Benard Muwanga doubled the advantage at the stroke of halftime, converting from the spot.

A Mbarara City player held the ball in the box from Hussein Zzinda’s rebound and a penalty was awarded. Muwanga took it with precision, sending goalkeeper Abdul Kimera tbmhe wrong way.

Mbarara City FC pulled one back through Henry Kitegenyi from close range but the hosts defended resiliently to secure victory and return to winning ways.

The result lifts UPDF FC up to fourth place on 12 points while Mbarara City FC remain tenth on nine points.

The two teams will return to action after the international break with Mbarara City FC hosting Mbale Heores FC while UPDF FC will visit Kitara FC.
