The Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC) staff engaged in a football friendly match with a combined team from Air Force and Special Forces Command (SFC) select at the Works playground in Entebbe on Tuesday, 4th February 2025.

This match is one of the activities that the army lined up in the build-up to the 44th “Tarehe Sita” celebrations.

The UPPC staff team won the contest 2-0 with a goal in either half of the duel played under sunny conditions.

Brian Ochan scored the opening goal during the first half before Carols Kaddu capped the icing on the cake.

The match was graced by Major General David Isimbwa, the Deputy Commander of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Air Force as chief guest.

Major General Isimbwa was joined by Brig. General Richard Rubongoya, among other officers during the tranquil match also watched by civilians who included staff members of Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation among the other members of the general public.

“The match was good and I liked the fighting spirit from both teams. Football won it all at the end of the day” seasoned defender Duncan Ssemakula, who played for UPPC staff remarked after the game.

The winning team (UPPC Staff) will be rewarded with a trophy on Thursday, 6th February 2025 during the celebrations at the Entebbe Mayor’s Gardens.

For starters, Tarehe Sita, which translates to “6th day” in Swahili, is a day of great historical importance for Uganda.

It is officially observed on 6 February every year, to commemorate the day National Resistance Army led by the current President and Commander in Chief of the armed forces, Gen. Yoweri K. Museveni launched an armed rebellion on February 6, 1981.

This armed rebellion ultimately led to the seizing control of the capital city, Kampala, bringing an end to years of political turmoil and civil unrest.

This year will therefore mark the 44th edition of the Tahere Sita day with the main celebrations in Masaka city.

Across the country, soldiers do different acts of charity in collaboration with civilian groups as tree planting, communal cleaning drives, blood donation, health camps, sports (football, netball, marathon), counseling & guidance sessions and others.
