Valencia have reportedly asked for their LaLiga clash with Real Madrid this weekend to be postponed amid devastating flash flooding.

At least 51 people have died after torrential rain hit the south-east region of Spain.

The town of Chiva, near Valencia, saw a year’s worth of rain fall in just an eight hour period.

More than 1000 troops have been deployed as footage on social media showed the horrifying impact on the region.

Officials say it is currently ‘impossible’ to put a final figure on the number of people who have died.

The club’s Copa del Rey tie with Parla Escuela on Wednesday night has already been called off.

“The club considers that this is the most appropriate measure due to the serious consequences of the #DANA that we are experiencing in the province of Valencia, the recommendations to avoid travel and the communication cuts with Madrid,” read a Valencia statement.

Spanish publication Relevo report that LaLiga are now considering a request to postpone their clash with Real Madrid on Saturday, due to be played in Valencia.

A message from Valencia read: “Valencia CF would like to send its sincere condolences to the families and friends of those who died as a result of the #DANA.

“Much strength to all the neighbours and affected populations and to the groups that are working on the prevention and consequences of the effects of the storm.

“The club is at the disposal of the authorities and the affected municipalities to help in any way possible.”

Real Madrid also sent a message of support, writing: “The club’s president and the Board of Directors would like to extend their condolences to the families and loved ones of the people who have lost their lives as a result of the storm that has hit many areas of our country, especially in the provinces of Valencia and Albacete.

“Real Madrid is deeply saddened and expresses its solidarity with all the people affected by this catastrophe, to whom it conveys all its full support and sympathy.”

Players have also been sending messages of support to those affected.

Luka Modric said on X: “Lots of encouragement and strength to all the people of Valencia and the other provinces affected by the storm.”

Vinicius Jr added: “Much encouragement to all!”

Valencia are currently bottom of LaLiga having won just one of their 11 games this season.
