51st Stanbic Uganda Cup (Round of 64)

Friday, 10th January 2025 (All Games kick off at 3 PM)

  • UCU Vs NEC – Mbale City Stadium
  • Tepa Vs Vipers – St Aloysius Core PTC, Ngora
  • Pakwach Young Stars Vs Kigezi Homeboyz – St Mary’s Omach ground

The round of 64 for the 51st edition of the Stanbic Uganda Cup officially gets underway with three fixtures on Friday, 10th January 2024.

Three-time champions Vipers commence their campaign in Uganda’s oldest knock out football competition away from home, against little known Tepa.

This contest will take place at the St Aloysius Core PTC ground in Ngora.

Vipers has won this tournament in 2015-2016, 2019-2020 and lately 2022-2023.

They approach the game as overwhelming favorites given the status quo and players’ superiority in terms of quality and experience.

Vastly experienced players as Moses Waiswa, Yunus Sentamu, Siraje Sentamu, Abdul Karim Watambala, Alfred Mudekereza (goalkeeper), Hillary Mukundane, Derrick Ndahiiro, Kenneth KImera, Paul Patrick Mbowa and others are part of the team.

Allan Okello will be rested whilst skipper Milton Karisa is out with an injury.

Tepa aims to pull off a shock with the home advantage playing in their favour against a seasoned club that has one of the best squads which is also highly motivated.

“We shall approach the game maturely. We are ready for the battle” John Luyinda, Vipers’ coach remarked.

In other games on the day, NEC football club is also away against UCU Mbale at the Mbale city stadium.

Under head coach Hussein Mbalangu, NEC is also season’s losing finalist to champions Kitara.

Following their 1-0 away win in the Uganda Premier League against Mbale Heroes, NEC remained pitched in Mbale and have acclimatized to the weather.

“I thank the management of NEC football club for allowing us to stay in Mbale and prepare for the Stanbic Uganda Cup match against UCU Mbale. The boys (players) are ready for action” Mbalangu spoke on the match eve.

NEC will rely on the expertise of Muzamiru Mutyaba, Paul Mucureezi, Hannington Ssebwalunyo (goalkeeper), James Jarieko, Gideon Odongo and Cromwell Rwothomio, among others for the much-needed inspiration.

Away in Pakwach, the home team, Pakwach Young Stars will entertain Kigezi Homeboyz at the St Mary’s Omach ground

The round of 64 draw was held by Musician Bebe Cool, flanked by two FUFA Executive Committee members Rogers Mulindwa and Rogers Byamukama at Kampala Serena Hotel.

These were joined by Daniel Kayongo, a marketing executive from Kansai Plascon.

The winner of the Stanbic Uganda Cup qualifies to represent the country at the CAF Confederation Cup.
