With Uganda Rugby Cranes captain Byron Oketayot sidelined due to a concussion, Conrad Wandera Wanyama has been handed the reins for the 2024 Elgon Cup decider this Saturday.
Wanyama, who has served as vice-captain for a year, will lead Uganda in their search for an eighth Elgon Cup. This will be at his local club’s home, Kings Park in Bweyogerere.
Kenya Simbas lead by 27-25 points after the first round played at the RFUEA Grounds along Ngong Road in Nairobi, Kenya. Victory by a three-point margin will keep the Elgon Cup on Ugandan soil for the first time since 2013.
Oketayot’s is the only change made to the Rugby Cranes’ starting XV. Sydney Gongodyo replaces him at the openside flank. Emmanuel Kiyaga will earn his test debut off the bench in a 5-3 split. Ian Munyani and Timothy Kisiga join Ofoyrwoth and Ogena as additions from the national 7s squad.
