Washington Commanders are giving Jayden Daniels what Chicago Bears draft mistake is costing Caleb Williams

Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels will have their careers compared with one another until the day they retire.

That includes only three weeks into their young careers.

Fair or not, that’s the reality when you are taken with the first and second overall picks in the NFL Draft as the pair were just a few months ago.

Playing the same position for two franchises who haven’t had franchise quarterbacks in decades, that just adds extra headline material.

One has passed the immediate test and looked the part so far, while the other has had his fair share of struggles.

Daniels had his coming out party in front of a national TV audience as he shredded the Cincinnati Bengals defense and beat fellow LSU Heisman winning quarterback Joe Burrow on Monday night.

It was a historic performance for the ages that rookies just don’t have, yet Daniels did.

“A rookie playing like that,” former NFL special teamer Jason Bell said in an exclusive sit-down with talkSPORT.

“If you are a Washington fan you are excited. What I like, in the fourth quarter, he saw what they were doing to him, bringing a lot of pressure and he took advantage of it.

“He made big time throws in the end.

“You see with his mobility and his arm strength that the future looks bright for him. You never want rookies to be overwhelmed and he seems very calm in every game he’s in.

“I like his presence, I like what they have as far as his future as he’s concerned. Hopefully we get to see more improvement as the weeks progress.”

Williams has had his moments, but overall has struggled to begin his careerGetty

With Daniels looking like a supernova, it only casts a larger shadow on first overall pick, Williams.

It’s no secret that, despite having a few moments, Williams has struggled mightily overall.

So what’s the difference?

“Situation,” Bell said in a heartbeat.

“When you look at the Bears and what they’re asking him to do, they’re trying to get him to throw a lot, drop back a lot, the offensive line isn’t holding up.

“You really want him to have more of a run game, take the pressure off him. That’s what you want to do with a rookie, make sure you establish the run and then if he’s got to throw 20-21 times a game there it is.

“I think there is a lot of pressure on his plate. He’s got to play quarterback in the pocket a little more, he’s moving around a lot, trying to create and that’s difficult, but we see he has the arm talent.”

The offensive line is not holding up by any means, giving up 13 sacks through the first three weeks of the season, the third most.

It’s fair to wonder if the Bears should have taken an offensive lineman with the ninth overall pick instead of wide receiver Rome Odunze.

Olu Fashanu, Taliese Fuaga, Amarius Mims and Troy Fautanu were some of the names still available at the time. Joe Alt and JC Lathem could have been in striking distance with a trade up.

Too late now.

Williams’ and Daniels’ careers will forever be intertwined.

However, there’s no need to sound the alarms just yet Bears fan, according to Bell.

“They’re gonna always compare these two because they’re one and two but we know nothing about them and who they are yet,” Bell said.

“Trust me we’ve seen rookie quarterbacks that first year struggle and go on and be great. Peyton Manning being one of them, Troy Aikman way back in the day.

“You just need to let these guys evolve, give them time. Caleb Williams will be fine but it’s gonna be a tough year.”

Exhale Chicago, it’s only been three weeks. But as for you Washington?

You got yourself a franchise quarterback.
