Prior to flying to Uganda, Hugo Broos had revealed he would resign from his job if South Africa failed to qualify for Afcon 2025.

Bafana Bafana then eventually qualified before taking on Uganda after South Sudan did the job on third placed Congo to leave both the Cranes and South Africa qualified.

In the pre-match conference, Broos said that not much changes as the 1996 winners targeted maximum points in order top the group and it did happen as second half goals from super substitutes Thapelo Morena (49th minute) and Patrick Maswanganyi on the stroke of fulltime propelled the visitors to the top of Group K for the first time.

“We came here to win, we came here to be first in the group, and we are now first in the group. We will try to also win the game against South Sudan on Tuesday, and stay at the top of the group,” he said.

South Africa are now on 11 points, one better than Uganda and 7 ahead of Congo with one final round to play.
