Wednesday racing tips
- CHEPSTOW
12.50: Kap Ouest 10/3 (1pt)
1.20: Tripoli Flyer 10/11 (1.5pts)
1.50: Got A Dream 5/1 each-way (1.5pts) - NOTTINGHAM
1.43: Huddle Up (to place) 5/4 (1pt)
Kap Ouest
Can’t quite see the appeal of the 1/2 shot here,
Kap Ouest was last seen back in May when putting up a good battle with Valgrand to the last to keep him up to his best.
That was an encouraging run given there was plenty of room for improvement on his hurdle debut.
And of course, that form has worked out incredibly well since.
Valgrand has since gone on to win twice over hurdles since, once again in May and then on seasonal debut at Cheltenham last month in the Grade 2 Sharp Novices’ Hurdle.
The Dan Skelton-trained horse is now rated 140, which surely puts Kap Ouest up there, at least better than a 10/3 shot to beat a horse yet to be seen over hurdles, also trained by Skelton.
Royal Infantry does have a lot of solid form in bumpers to be given this odds-on chance, winning in listed company at Newbury in February before going for the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham Festival.
He was rated 124 for that but there’s often value going for a horse with experience and it just so happens he put in a great effort against his stablemate to make him more backable.
Tripoli Flyer
If going by the above logic throughout there could be a few second favourites to back at Chepstow today with Jurancon, who placed second on hurdle debut, takes on Tripoli Flyer another impressive bumper runner and makes his hurdle debut today.
However, if we’re going off the form of Valgrand, then Tripoli Flyer has to be considered for his impressive bumper form.
The transition to hurdles comes naturally to some horses and this gelding has been fancied throughout the morning to come into 10/11 from evens.
He placed a length behind Horaces Pearl in the Grade 2 bumper that also featured Valgrand after winning a Class 2 bumper at Lingfield in January.
Lots to like on paper and pedigree, with trainer Fergal O’Brien often prepping his hurdlers well first time out.
Got A Dream
The same logic for the two previous bets can also be the case for Let It Rain and French Ship in this 1.50 Maiden Hurdle.
The Skelton team are having an incredible start to the season and that’s unlikely to really stop given the talented horses they have.
They send out Let It Rain who is another odds-on favourite who could make it their 19th or even 20th winner from under 70 runners in the last two weeks alone.
This mare has won twice in bumpers including in listed company last time out at Ascot, back in December.
Her price is drifting this morning but still remains just odds-on ahead of French Ship, trained by Philip Hobbs & Johnson White.
This gelding has also drifted in the betting a little this morning to as high as 9/4 from 15/8.
He gives away 6lb to the mare, but has the hurdle experience too along with some decent bumper form.
Beaten by Palacio a 20/1 shot last time out they finished well ahead of the rest of the field and also has lots of potential if improving on that run last month.
Got A Dream however, is the 5/1 shot that hasn’t seen much movement in price.
He placed seventh at Aintree in a Grade 2 bumper behind Horaces Pearl, also behind Tripoli Flyer and Valgrand, but not by far.
His 5/1 price is very interesting given Nicky Martin’s 2/2 winners over the last three days and make a nice sensible each-way bet.
Huddle Up
Lots of potential in this race with Marching Mac a clear favourite aiming for his four-timer under Grace McEntee for trainer Phil McEntee.
He raced just five days ago and has been upped another 7lb for that win.
Won over course and distance in October off 23lb lower and though he doesn’t look like stopping it’s wise to go for what could be a safer bet here at 5/4.
Huddle Up is as consistent as you can get from a flat horse in these kinds of sprints.
He may only have two wins but he’s placed in the top three altogether a total of 16 times including in each of his last six outings.
That’s been in an array of conditions and between 5f and 6f, including over course and distance.
Up against these rivals he can certainly replicate that again and get a good placed effort again at least.
Last Outlaw won that course and distance race featuring Huddle Up, so he also might have a say of things as the unexposed three-year-old of the field.
