Wednesday racing tips

  • KEMPTON
    5.30: Gennadius 3/1 (1pt)
    7.30: Camera Shy 9/2 each-way (2pts)

Gennadius

There’s been a massive gamble on Gennadius, trained by Richard Hannon and ridden by Sean Levey, going in from around 6’s as the third favourite into around 5/2 and 9/4.

However, the favourite Opera Ballo has remained strong as the odds-on shot.

It’s an expensive maiden stakes as the favourite fetched 600,000 Euros as a yearling.

While Ledanis who has drifted to match the gamble on Gennadius, was bought for 325,000gns as a yearling.

The rest of the field are 20/1 and higher with a few 200/1+ shots making it clear it’s all between the front runners.

Anything can happen with the three three-year-olds who make their debuts for top yards.

But you have to go with the well-backed Gennadius from a gamble and value point of view.

Camera Shy

Trouble Man finished ahead of Miss Funky Monk, who was a subsequent at Wolverhampton next time out, winning by over two lengths.

Camera Shy was a big debut winner at Newmarket in May beating Calyxoh by a head in a 12 runner event in Class 2 company, springing a 14/1 surprise.

That form has worked out okay with the second placed horse now rated in the 80’s despite not winning but running with credit.

Dukes Of Haather placed third and now has an overall rating of 73 but was as high as 77 when winning at Chester over 7f in July.

Camera Shy went straight to San Siro to run in the Premio Primi Passi a Group 3 contest in Italy, in June but placed ninth of nine and was quickly gelded after disappointing as the odds-on favourite.

He returned in November with a first run on the all-weather which looked promising placing third of ten by just half a length.

He carried 4lb more than the two horses ahead of him and finished ahead of Rock Hunter who’s rated 79.

Camera Shy will have to improve but this looks winnable if living up to the potential he’s shown.

He’s got a great chance at 9/2 under Oisin Murphy.
