Wednesday racing tips

Punchestown
3.20: Pink In The Park 3/1 (1pt)
3.50: Hewick 4/1 (1pt)

Wetherby
2.30: Escapeandevade (1pt)
4.00: Jagwar 2/1 (1pt)

Pink In The Park

Jordans and Pink In The Park both placed second last time out to winners who have since gone on to win in Grade 3 company next time out.

The pair may well have a better chance than the close betting rival Monbeg Park.

The mare trained by Willie Mullins gets a good allowance from the geldings of the field, having carried 7lb more than the winner at Listowel which only boosts her chances here due to that form being franked.

Hewick

Next up is the BetVictor Chase (Grade 3) over 2m7f with 9 runners who are all pretty much Grade 1 horses.

Hewick is the top weight as the top-rated horse of the field and ought to impress back from a break.

He won the King George VI chase at Kempton in December but hasn’t yet followed that incredible victory up with another win.

His third place effort here in the Punchestown Gold Cup was a huge effort though, narrowly behind Fastorslow and Galopin Des Champs.

4/1 looks a great price on the gelding who continues to defy expectations in another tough contest.

Escapeandevade

Escapeandevade is still on the up after a hattrick of wins to round off last season.

Winning nicely on each occasion going up a total of 15lbs since the first of three victories.

Pay The Piper won last time out on seasonal reappearance having been dropped to a dangerous weight with a reduced rating of 128 having started last season on 137.

He could still be at a dangerous mark but with only four wins from 23 chase starts he’s tough to side with when Escapeandevade is primed.

Jagwar

Jagwar has been a popular horse with his expected potential being much higher, but he’s only justified it once when an odds-on favourite at Carlisle in February.

He’s still only five-years-old and now makes a highly anticipated move to fences.

The gelding ran with credit in his last two defeats in both Class 2 and 3 company.

His jumping first time out is a concern though, given his tendency over hurdles to make the odd mistake.

He’s certainly more of a chaser and to be a 2/1 favourite on chase debut says a lot, perhaps because there’s still that suspicion he’s much better than he’s shown.

As such, he could be very well weighted to strike here given 17lb by Jet Plane.

Who was upped 9lb for his Class 3 handicap chase success at Market Rasen – winning by 12 lengths.

He’s exposed over fences but could Jagwar be that unexposed and well-weighted to beat a serial chase winner?
