Anniversary
Anniversary is a promising colt for trainer Ralph Beckett who has been seeing plenty of winners recently and throughout the season really.
The colt won on debut ahead of Scandinavia which has worked out well enough form-wise considering that was the Aidan O’Brien horse’s second run, in which he placed behind Green Impact and Delacroix.
This colt was then beaten by Too Soon though at Epsom when favourite but on heavy ground, however was carrying a 3lb penalty to the winner.
That form has worked out okay too as Too Soon subsequently went to Newmarket’s Group 3 Zetland Stakes and placed a respectable fourth.
Watching Stars got off the mark at the third time of asking at Thirsk last month and there’s a possibility he’s well-weighted especially if thriving over this new distance.
His dam Half Light won over 1m2f in France and even more impressively won or placed in numerous Group races in both France, Britain and Germany.
The colt is also by Sea The Stars so this step up in trip could see a huge improvement.
These two market leaders have form relative to each other as well, in regard to Glittering Legend.
That colt won at Goodwood over 1m in September where Watching Stars placed fourth but Anniversary did finish well ahead of Glittering Legend at Epsom last time out.
And his form in general has worked out much better while seemingly unexposed, with this new trip also set to work out well too.
Next Left
A really strong case can be made for Next Left who has the chase experience to better some debutants over this discipline.
Next Left’s jumping has been very sound in his last two races, including when trying 3m for a second time last time out, when beaten by The Kniphand who ran away with things at the end here but a valiant effort nonetheless against a horse who goes better over 3m.
His 4th placed effort at Worcester over this distance was also encouraging, even though he was the odds-on favourite, it was a bunched finish where the form has worked out well since.
He has the benefit of three runs already this Autumn and after a lengthy victory in September can add to that nicely here under Harry Skelton.
Goblet Of Fire
Really liked Goblet Of Fire when winning ahead of Maasai Mara at Hereford in a maiden back in January, with that second placed horse going on to frank that form.
However, the Nicky Henderson-trained four-year-old has been seen twice since then and has yet to win again (over hurdles).
He’s won three times however on the flat since along with two placed efforts and should be well-weighted off his current mark reappearing over hurdles for the first time since May.
This young gelding has only got more to offer and despite the drift in the odds is only more backable now.
Whatsupwithyou
With Inca De Lafayette a non-runner the case is even stronger for Whatsupwithyou, who I was leaning towards over that runner anyway.
Junkanoo was entered into a 2m hurdle at Plumpton but was a non-runner due to the ground, but comes in looking at this new trip with some optimism.
This gelding may well need soft ground but Whatsupwithyou has a lot of experience over this trip including two solid placed efforts in his last two races at both Cheltenham and Plumpton.
Ben Pauling and Ben Jones enjoyed lots of winners together last season and could see one of many ahead this year, with this consistent 10-year-old gelding.
He’s only won three times over hurdles from 25 runs, but one of those came back in December and he’s looked comfortable stepping up in the weights.
