Chelsea have bounced back from defeat to Manchester City on the opening day to string together a three-match unbeaten streak.

Enzo Maresca will now hope to emulate his predecessor Mauricio Pochettino, who oversaw a 5-0 win over West Ham four months ago.

The Hammers have had their own struggles at home this season after losing to Aston Villa and Man City, but they’ve never lost their first three in east London in their history.

Chelsea have won 30 of their 56 Premier League meetings with West Ham (D10 L16), only winning more times against Tottenham in the competition’s history (35).

West Ham have lost both of their Premier League home games so far this season, going down 2-1 against Aston Villa and 3-1 against Manchester City – in their league history, they’ve never lost each of their first three at home in a single campaign.

Chelsea have won each of their last four away games in the Premier League, last winning five such matches in a row in December 2021 under Thomas Tuchel. That includes both under Enzo Maresca this season, with Pep Guardiola in 2016 the last manager to win each of his first three away games in the top-flight.

West Ham have alternated between winning (5) and not winning (D2 L3) in their last 10 Premier League home games against Chelsea, beating them 3-1 at the London Stadium last term. They last won consecutive home league games against the Blues in 2001-02/2002-03.

West Ham vs Chelsea: Team news

Emerson Palmieri is a doubt to face his former side with a thing injury, while Niclas Fullkrug is struggling with an Achilles issue.

Julen Lopetegui may choose to reshape his attack, with Michail Antonio yet to score from four Premier League games this term.

Chelsea meanwhile have a never-ending list of injuries, headlined by the continued absence of captain Reece James.

Romeo Lavia is suffering from a similar hamstring problem, with Malo Gusto also ruled out which should see Axel Disasi at right-back.

Enzo Fernandez and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall have provided a double boost by recovering from illness to train this week.

All four of Christopher Nkunku’s Premier League goals for Chelsea have been as a substitute, including his winner against Bournemouth last time out. It’s the joint-most goals a player has scored in the competition’s history with 100% of them coming from the bench.

West Ham’s Michail Antonio has been involved in five goals in his last six Premier League games against Chelsea, scoring three and assisting two. His next goal involvement will be his 100th in the competition, making him the first West Ham player to reach that milestone (67 goals, 32 assists).

No player has had more successful dribbles in the Premier League this season than Mohammed Kudus (16), while he’s also created more big chances (2) than any other West Ham player so far.

Chelsea have been shown more yellow cards than any other side in the Premier League this season (16). Half of those came in their last game against Bournemouth, with that eight the highest number of bookings they’ve ever received in a Premier League game (not including 2nd yellows/reds).

West Ham vs Chelsea: What has been said?

Maresca spoke about the contrasting form between Mykhailo Mudryk and Nicolas Jackson during his pre-match press conference.

The Chelsea boss urged Ukrainian winger Mudryk to keep working after another difficult start to a Premier League season.

He said: “The training sessions are the only way to improve players. We try to improve all of them every day, with some of them doing some extra sessions at the end. Micha is one of them.

“At this moment he is not playing, but that doesn’t mean he is not going to play in the future.”

On Jackson, Maresca added: “He is doing very well. Day by day in the training sessions and then in the Premier League games.

“Against [Man] City, he was very good. Wolves away, he scored and gave some assists. Palace, until the end he was fighting. Bournemouth, he did well again. He missed chances but that doesn’t mean you are not playing well.

“Right now, he is our striker, I don’t have any doubt, because of the way he is working on the ball and off the ball in training and during the games.”
